If you paired him with a big time OC hire I don’t think it’s that crazy

It's pretty crazy. No coaching hire is without risks, but that would be taking on about as big a risk imaginable. I wouldn't hate it, but I don't know how you could have much confidence it would work out.

he’s going to get big head coaching looks this year and in the future

I'd be shocked is Elijah gets any big time HC offers this winter. I think he'll need to prove himself as a coordinator, not many P5 schools are going to hire a position coach.

I say make him DC under Elko (or co-DC if he insists on bringing Santucci) and get another year or two of his awesomeness before letting him do his thing elsewhere

Well Lanning’s is presumably out. He said he has no interest in leaving Oregon for us.

I don't expect Lanning to leave Oregon for A&M, but the press conference declarations of not leaving and then ultimately leaving happen all the time. Doesn't mean he's gone, but he's not retiring at Oregon either.

I mean... Oregon is 9-1 and ranked #6 right now. They are still in the hunt for the playoff. If he said he was interested his team would likely quit on him and he would have shown himself to be so dumb that I'm not sure I'd even want him anymore.

Yes it happens all the time, but Oregon isn’t in the PAC12 so I see him staying a while. Also outside of Saban and maybe Smart, no one currently employed is retiring at their school.

If I’m an Oregon fan I’m pretty happy with Lannings statement. He shut it down, things change obviously, but I remember when we were in this situation with Jimbo and the LSU thing and he leaned into it so hard to get that extra money. Refused to say he was staying. Hindsight being what it is, they should’ve said no to extending him

People also assume no one can outbid Oregon because of Nike, yet they've lost two coaches in a row to FSU and Miami.

Phil Knight made sure this one can’t leave, though. It’s way beyond the $20 million number in his contract.

And FWIW, ERob with retaining Durkin and hiring a top flight offensive staff is absolutely on the table. It’s not the most likely scenario but don’t be surprised if that’s the way this goes.

Robinson is thought of about as highly as one can be in coaching circles for a guy without coordinator experience.

The most likely option is a current P5 coordinator, but ERob is probably right behind that if these next few weeks go well.

Him being promoted to interim HC instead of eithe rod the guys on staff with actual HC experience, including one guy in Durkin most any new HC will try to keep, was absolutely intentional on Bjork’s part. The is part keep this thing together by promoting the most popular guy amongst the players, and part try out.

Matt Rhule was already licking his chops the way he talked about Robinson potentially becoming available next year.

I’m going to be interested to see what the offense looks like these next two weeks. Robinson said he’s turning that entire gameplan over to Petrino, and so if things look decidedly different or more effective it’s going to give us a lot of insight into things and affirm a lot of what I’ve heard through the year.

I think the most likely scenario is Jeff Traylor gets the HC spot and ERob becomes DC

Kind of hard to keep a coach when your Alma Mater is calling you to come back home.

Jeff Traylor might make me walk away from the program entirely. He’s a massive piece of shite, which would be ok if I actually had any optimism with regards to him being able to succeed at this level. I do not however.

That dude burned a lot of bridges in Aggieland with his recruiting shenanigans while at Gilmer and then a position coach at Texas though. I’d be pretty surprised if that’s been forgiven.

His offense is so cool. He has a couple skeletons related to some academic stuff at a former stop but that wouldn’t stop state from going after him.
