Schlossnagle makes $1.2 mil at TCU. We'd have to make him the highest paid coach in the country to get him. What tea leaves?

I highly doubt that. If MSU couldn't money whip him with the addition of the new stadium, I don't think we're going to.

From Hop:

quote:

Since Bjork didn't extend Childress' contract, there's a pretty good chance that he's already done his research and knows the 1-2 coaches he wants to hire.

This is a good take. I wouldn't expect some big long search. If the decision was basically made to not extend Childress before the season then Bjork has probably had a private backchannel search for months. When the year is up and the postseason finishes (I assume the new coach will be in the postseason) we'll make a nice swift hire.

Here is a strong post from twk:

I feel pretty sure that Vitello will not be coaching in Knoxville next year. There will be a number of openings where he will be a top candidate. He might be number one on my list, but from what I've read, I will be highly disappointed if we don't get either Vitello or Schlossnagle. We should not have to settle for less than one of those two.

Listen to Liucci - he sounds like he did when we hired Fisher. Honestly, I'd rather have the TCU pitching coach/recruiting coordinator. Saarloos

I expect Tony Vitello to be at LSU next year ...

I will see if I can find them. They were a few weeks ago. In the meantime, Hop and Ryan B continue to beat the same drum. A&M is a position that many coaches will be interested in. Also, it looks like if TCU does lose Shlossnagle to us or LSU they will simply promote Saarloos.

We will just lose out on a HC if we go head to head with LSU. That is reality - we are going to be the #2 job available this year

Shlossnagle is going into the final year of his contract. He ever well could just use the market to drive his price up. TCU is already paying him something like 1.4 M a year. Just the fact he visited and turned down the perfect offer from MSU (SEC, top stadium, crazy fan support, and 2 M a year) makes me extremely skeptical. Add in, you don't see a ton of the top coaches at big schools move around.

Schlossnagle has always been interested in the A&M job, because of recruiting in the Houston area. It's also an SEC job. I expect we would have to pay him a pretty penny but it isn't like our AD hurts for money. We also would have to improve facilities, but have to do that anyway. My guess is that Bjork already knows who he wants and is working that behind the scenes. I heard from a friend at TCU that they expect Schloss to leave this year

The question is if Bjork is willing to offer him the payday - he comes from a background where the AD typically doesn't have a ton

Also, this is an excerpt from the baseball article published this morning on Texags

quote:

With that said, at this point, the writing is on the wall and clear as day when it comes to Aggie Baseball and the state of the program. The head coach is without a contract at the end of this year, and what that meant coming into the 2021 season is that it was going to take a miraculous run to — and through — the postseason for Rob Childress to be asked to return as head coach for a 17th season. And as of Monday, April 12 — with the Aggies sitting at a hapless and helpless 19-15 overall and 3-9 in SEC play and having dropped six straight games and three in a row to unranked SEC West foe Alabama — I think we all can agree that it’s plain as day what will be happening at the end of the season, barring some miraculous and turnaround.

I hope you are right but I've never heard that Schlossnagle has any interest in the A&M job.

1 run in 19 innings. Pathetic.

The reality is that this team is not good and it's another nail in the coffin.

It's over - everything but the coaching search. I think we will go hard after a few name coaches. Remember, we don't have to pay any kind of buyout for Childress

TA sounds confident, like you said, so I’m confident we’ll land a good coach.

Tadlock, Schlossnagle, etc. Basically there is real interest from some big names and it’s about Bjork picked the best fit.
