Starters in bold

2016 Class

JR - Kellen Dietsch 0.9519 rating, 4 star
JR - Riley Anderson 0.8621 rating, 3 star
SR - Colton Prater 0.8383 rating, 3 star
JR - Ryan McCollum 0.8293 rating, 3 star

2017 Class

SO - Grayson Reed 0.9103 rating, 4 star
JR - Dan Moore 0.8532 rating, 3 star
JR - Jared Hocker 0.8453 rating, 3 star
JR - Carson Green 0.8381 rating, 3 star

2018 Class

FR - Colten Blanton 0.9370, 4 star
FR - Tank Jenkins 0.9083, 4 star
FR - Luke Matthews 0.8914, 4 star

2019 Class

FR - Kenyon Green 0.9926, 5 star

Can someone tell me how the lowest rated players from both our 2016 and 2017 class (the 5 lowest-rated OL on our roster overall) have the majority of the starts and playing time?

Because they have the most experience.

I’ve been super disappointed in Dietsch, was such a big get for us and he hasn’t done anything on campus.

Hopefully one of the 2018 class guys will step up. Plenty of 4 stars in that one

3 stars work harder.

Recruiting ratings for OL usually suck.

And our line last year featured almost all the same guys and it was anchored by the lowest rated OL from the 2015 class, so there's something going on besides "we're starting our lowest rated guys and that's why our OL is trash"

It's not necessarily bad OL play. It's defenses stacking the box, EXPECTING us to establish the run, when we have no TE threat for whom they must account and no Mond scramble threat for whom they must place a spy.

Defenses are disguising coverage to look benign, but they are ALL selling out to stop the run.

McCoy was higher rater than 3 of our current starters.

Lanfear and Sutherland were higher rated than all but Kenyon Green and Kellen Dietsch.

Try again.

2018 Offensive Line:

LT - Dan Moore
LG - Keaton Sutherland
C - Erik McCoy
RG - Connor Lanfear (when he wasn't hurt)
RT - Carson Green

An offensive line coach worth his salary would have Prater 5th string behind McCollum, Matthews, Clement and Robinson. There's a reason he didn't crack anywhere near the 2-deep in 2017 or 2018 and was benched 2 games into the 2016 season.

Are you seriously telling me that, between the 2018 season (when Ryan McCollum was McCoy's backup) and 2019 that Prater all of a sudden got SO MUCH BETTER that he was starter material?!

Jim Turner played Prater in 35 of the 38 games he was available

Prater started 12 games in 2016

Prater knows the offense and blocking assignments better, which from a center is more valuable than the minor skill/strength difference between him and McCollum.

Next year we’re likely going to move Kenyon to tackle, Green or Moore to guard and Matthews will start at center. It’ll look something like:

Moore
Green
Matthews
Hocker
Kenyon

Moore needs to move to guard.

Ideally, this would be my 2-deep next season:

LT - Kenyon Green (SO)
LG - Dan Moore (SR)
C - Luke Matthews (RS-SO)
RG - Tank Jenkins (RS-SO)
RT - Carson Green (SR)

I am NOT sold on Jared Hocker. He frequently misses his assignment, then runs his mouth in interviews.

2nd team for 2020 should be:

LT - Blake Trainor (RS-FR)
LG - Layden Robinson (RS-FR)
C - Ryan McCollum (RS-SR)
RG - Jared Hocker (SR)
RT - Bart Clement (RS-SO)

Carson Green has been garbage this year. If he is back at RT next year, yikes

The right side of the line (Greenx2) has not been bad compared to the other three.

Except at the margins, OL rankings mean d1ck. You think the d-bags at Rivals, 247, or Texags know anything about OLine play. Or have any idea what they're looking at in these camps?

Moore plays more like a tackle than Green, he plays high with better lateral movement than power. He’s not a great tackle by any stretch, but he is not a guard. Green is a better blocker but doesn’t do well in space at all.

He has been terrible all year but against Bama he took it to a new low. He was driven backwards time after time into the backfield. No idea how he is starting at this level.

I'd like to point out that our only touchdown tonight was when Prater was on the bench and McCollum was at center.

Prater comes back in and proceeds to commit a holding penalty.
