FWIW I think the pitch to Trey in the end zone falls in that 1%. Yes, the players failed to execute, but part of playcalling is taking into account the risk of that failure, and a pitch isn't a low-risk play on a passing down where you'll have blitzes.

Play calling isn't nearly as important as y'all make it out to be and makes up ~1% of the effectiveness of an OC.

It matters a hell of a lot when you're being completely predictable, consistently running plays that work ~5% of the time, and ignoring common sense. I understand the sentiment that the "works = good, doesn't work = bad" view isn't right, but that doesn't mean that every play that didn't work was a good call that wasn't executed properly. Half the stadium could call out our first 3 plays while the offense was still jogging onto the field.

That's not even mentioning the times when we should have been predictable and run a conservative play (3rd and 1 or goal line situations) and THEN we try to get crazy with the call.

Can we even hire a WR coach right now? Do we have the spots if Chavis wants a guy?

we have room to add 1 coach right now as we are still down one. If we add a WR coach though, we'd have to remove a coach to add Haley

One thing to keep in mind is that LSU has only had 3 defensive coaches in Chavis's tenure - Brick at DL, Chavis at DC/LB, and Raymond at DB (and Cooper before him). We already have 4 defensive coaches right now.

What's the word on Mike Smith from Arkansas? Has coached WRs and RBs. We could move McKinney to an "administrative intern" role

What's the deal about going after our DB coach?

Haven't heard anything about that. Maybe its an assumption from media if Kevin Steele is set on bringing his own guys.

Weird I have no idea. On the front page it says Corey Raymond was courted by A&M and Alabama. But who knows

Almost all of our coaching search info this offseason comes from the other programs we are poaching from. Summy ain't talking to our side.

I've never heard his name come up on our side. And I doubt we'd bother. There's basically nothing between Raymond and Joseph.

They have virtually the same resume. Same age. HS coaches from NOLA. GA at LSU for Pelini beginning in 06. From there coached at a couple of smaller schools. Hired by Pelini at Nebraska to coach DBs. Ended up at an SEC school. Both considered very good recruiters. Joseph actually has more years of SEC experience even from his time at UT.

About the only surface reason to choose one over the other is familiarity.

Seems about right. I'm assuming it'll all come down to Chavis and his preference.

I'm still trying to figure out what we are going to do with McKinney. Christensen is supposed to be run-game coordinator, so where does that leave our RB Coach?

RGC is just a title. It means you design the running plays. It's often given to OL coaches because they usually create the blocking schemes. Jeff Grimes at LSU has the exact same title for instance. We probably added it for Christensen because we need to pay him more than our last OL coach.

I'm not saying McKinney is staying (I actually don't think he is after signing day), but I don't think DC's title has anything to do with it.

This makes sense. Thanks for the explanation

So... Mike Smith to coach WRs and RBs? Or... Banks to coach ST and RBs?

I know. I just had 2 separate thoughts. I wasn't trying to connect them.

Nor should he. Both Pubes and Hamm are toxic.
