I actually know his brother, the Gov, a little bit. He and my pops grew up together. Never met Jimmy. Missed opportunity, I guess. Dude is a skeezer, though.

Yeah, I can't find it now but in an article the other day there was a quote from OSU AD, Gene Smith, said he'd been contacted 2 1/2 weeks ago by Currie about him pursuing Schiano. So yeah, he may've been #1 ahead of Mullen for Currie.

For what it's worth the search seems a little more transparent within UT and my buddy who works in the tech department is hearing that after Cut/Brohm our targets are Gundy - Leach - Kiffin in that order.

I read the same thing. Currie went straight to Schiano. No other targets.

If the decision makers are suddenly cool with bringing Lane back but they offer Leach before him, I would explode into a fit of rage that cannot be described with words

Sorry, I conflated some fact with my own opinion.

Fact: Currie contacted OSU AD 2-3 weeks ago in regards to Schiano.
Fact: This is very shortly after Butch was fired, meaning he was an early target.
Fact: Jimmy Haslam tried to hire Schiano for Browns in 2014.
Fact: Jimmy Haslam has considerable clout with the UT AD.

Opinion: Haslam instructed Currie to pursue Schiano as the next coach. Currie went straight for Schiano. Any other targets were a diversion.
Opinion: I have heard Mullen had an offer, but I doubt it was a strong one. Once Florida started looking at him, we just let him ride. Haslam wanted Schiano.
Opinion: Gruden never got any sort of real offer.

I've heard nothing that seems to hold any weight in regards to Patterson, or Petersen for that matter.

I apologize if I've thrown you under the bus. You won't ever find this in writing because it would end Currie's career, but the rest of the search was a diversion, IMO. Jimmy wanted Schiano, and Currie tried to make it happen.

Edit: I also live in California and have for almost a decade. Everything I know is from the internet. I have no direct sources.

I think there may be truth to Chad Morris rumors. May have already been talking to him. Definitely think they’re trying to sneak something in ASAP.
