Crazy stat that their last win against AP number 1 was 1985. They are 2-17 all time against the number 1 team.
In contrast, there is only one team with a winning record against AP number 1 teams (11-7), if anyone wants to venture a guess as to who that is.

I’m going to guess Notre Dame because they used to play USC every year and also played Michigan a lot. Maybe a couple of post war Army or Navy teams thrown in there?
Does that record include bowl games?

1985 Sugar Vols! Defeated #1 Auburn early in season. If not for the two ties, probably would have won National Championship considering their dominating win over Miami in New Orleans. Only loss was to a 9-1-1 Florida, which would have won SEC if not for probation.
