It is a legitimate defensive strategy that has been implemented for over 50 years that it's better to get a penalty than let a guy catch a TD pass.

It looked like Thompkins got a bit banged up there. If he can't go in the 2nd half, it'd be a huge loss for Bama.

No way. They're playing Bama. Malzahn absolutely gets 6 there. It's the only team he cares about beating.
