Just curious what other 5 star players do you have on your roster that have attitude issues and trouble breaking through?

For me, it's primarily just a function of playing time. He was not good enough to displace players ahead of him at UGA. He also played a position where our depth probably ranks top 5 nationally. Very similar with Otis Reese who just transferred out, he was a very talented kid. But as you know, these kids get better as they get older. Or at least they are supposed to. So Florida was probably just a better fit for Cox because he will easily start. Dont think it's a big negative for either program just a function of roster depth and talent. Also, most 19 year olds have attitude issues so I'm not real concerned there. I am more bummed about Reese than Cox but it's just a by-product of what Kirby has assembled.

When Mullen was hired at UF I said, even on the Rant, that he was a good coach but I didn't think he could recruit well enough to be a consistent contender in the SEC. I haven't changed my opinion about that, and it's a shame. I just don't think he's the long term answer for UF. Your program, which has won the East more than any other team, has proven they will make a change when necessary. UF just has too many advantages to settle for less than a consistent contender.

He’s got to hire better recruiters. I hope he sees that. Loyalty is awesome but will get you fired if not in conjunction with results.

Could work. You like the head coach to be a great closer but a staff of good to great recruiters can probably take up the slack. Course, they need to be good coaches too. I think Saban erred too far for great young recruiting coaches a couple of years ago. Some of them are no longer there, and a lot of Alabama fans would like to see one more go.

Mullen isn't a top tier recruiter but he's a good coach. The talent upgrade at UF vs. State is gonna be a threat for sure.

Of course he is a good coach. It is Florida. All of their coaches are good coaches.

The question is if he will be remembered like Muschamp and McElwain or like Meyer and Spurrier. Or even something in between if that is tolerable.

Luckily, Grantham is carrying his water as far as recruiting goes. UFs offensive average recruit is closer to GTs average recruit than they are to UGAs. The defense does have 3 high 4/5 star recruits and consequently a much better average ranking.

Not doubting what you are saying about UF staff being light recruiters, but how much of the recruiting dip @ Florida is tied to the University?

Did the Urban Meyer effect (arrests etc) cause the administration to handcuff the alumni with recruiting? Every school sees athletics as a front door to the University & desires success, but Florida is the type of school that would seem to have a very short leash on letting the athletics damage the rep overall.

That’s only been talked about for around 10 years on here.

Cox was the reason Hurts was able to run all over us in the SECCG after Tua got hurt.

Cox came into the game after Walker got injured. Over and over, Cox got trapped inside and let Jalen Hurts escape to his right and do big damage.

That was 2 years ago in his freshman season.

Cox had zero awareness to go along with his freakish athletic ability. It was so bad that his teammates thought he was loafing. I just think he couldnt read keys and react to save his life.

The good news for florida is that he can be coached. But there was a reason why even in his sophomore campaign that he was getting jumped by early enrollees that should have been in high school.

This has become the trolling board. Holy shite.

I didn't read through the thread, but this thread screams:

"Come troll us!"

Some of our fans have done too much trolling on this board, but almost every other fan base has done as much and most have done more.

I have not noticed as much from Florida fans, so kudos for that. But when one of your own starts a thread like this, you should be prepared for people to pile on.

If Mullen does anything well, it is taking kids and coaching them up. He probably made the right decision going to Florida and Florida got a kid with a lot of upside. Win/Win really for everybody.

Mullen doesnt do shite for their defense. You and I know that.

Grantham does have a reputation for coaching the OLB position, though. That might be the coach that Cox needs.

It's not even that... just no one is going to actively disagree with the point. It's valid... so I guess you could be a thin-skinned poster and say "waaa, they're piling on", but it wasn't a rival fan who came in and talked shite about their recruiters... and the argument was valid.

On the upside, UF made a strong recruiting hire in Brewster. Will be interesting to see if he has an effect bringing the rest of their staff *up*, or if he is dragged down by the failures on that front from the top down.

Stop following recruiting. It is a miracle we ever finish in the top 10. Not our gig. Never will be unless we get someone like Urban again and you know the trouble that goes along with that. Mullen will recruit about like Spurrier and if he can win some titles it will improve but not to the levels of the top classes.

Spurrier brought in at least 2 consensus #1 ranked classes plus several other top 5 ranked classes during his time at Florida......

Mullen has shown he realizes this. Hiring Brewster was big for future recruiting and David was the best this cycle. Knox and English suck we all agree though.

Still if you look big picture. We add five kids rated five star on rivals or 247, our blue chip ratio is substantially better than it has been the last 5 years.

He won't out recruit Saban or Georgia. Just won't. But he has gotten better players than he is replacing these last few cycles overall and that will show.

This last group of seniors had a ton of three star talent. Now their replacements are four stars. That will show on the field.
