So he has to pay a buyout to enter the portal or is it just if he signs with someone? Why would LSU pay if he is entering the portal but not yet signing? I’m genuinely asking

Sounds like he got in to the portal after hearing what lsu would offer, lsu wasn't accounting for the additional cost of buying him out and they're not sure they want to pay that much. I'm guessing they're waiting to see if they get seaton or any other expensive players

Probably not the case. We are talking about the former head coach of a program where he knew the former, current, and likely future terms for the top players. Additionally, talking to the kid and his agent…

LSU (and Verge) knows exactly what it would take

Well revenue share is brand new and Lane isn't privvy to contracts signed by Ole Miss players.

They just told him they'd give him a millie and didn't realize that actually meant 1.6m

That's not going to stop LSU if we really want him.

Just depends on how much rev share LSU has available.

If LSU wants him, he’ll be a Tiger.

I'm sure LSU has figured out how to make that work.

My guess is the stalling/threats is Ole Miss trying to figure out how to pay more to keep him.

ETA: this aged well

I find it hard to believe Lane Kiffin doesn’t know how the portal works.

Supposedly the rev share cap is an issue. That’s a new wrinkle this year so it wouldn’t shock me if it was kind of an afterthought until it couldn’t be ignored

Judging by the figures we are seeing for Seaton and others right now... If LSU wants them, they will pay them whatever.

This literally happened like 2 weeks ago with Demond Williams.

Henry he's more than likely leaving for LSU paying his buyout, he's history.

Demand had a much bigger buyout, it was in the millions.

thats hilarious...of course he knows all. makes all the right moves and never just does dumb shite for no reason.
u think he knows the details of every single player on the roster, which ones have buyouts which ones dont and how much it is.
I'd bet the farm he had no clue about the buyout, assumed it could come from slush money said yes...then found out it had to come from rev sharing...and pumped the brakes.
he may still very well get them, but u can bet your arse it ain't because he knew on the front end exactly what it'd take.

Guys don't think this is the flex you think it is. The defensive line coach and coordinators that coached him all year had a chance to bump pay him a little less than lsu for him to stay and passed. We had him for a pretty good bargain and it was worth more to kiffin for lsu to overpay for him than for us to have him for a bargain. Props to LsU for the unlimited budget this year, we'll see what the ROI is here.
