Yet, if you look at who UGA has committed, and who else they have in the cards as possible signees, a top composite ranking is possible as a by-product. I don't think it will happen at this time, but it's also not out of the cards.
It's like that for Bama in this cycle too. They'd have to land most of their remaining top targets along with 2-4 lower-ranked decommits. Player rankings will change some too by NSD.

Bama has to recruit out-of-state a lot to get elite players and there's plenty of tough competition for them.
Would do just as well 50/50.

Yup... Anyone who thinks they know where things will shake out at this point hasn't paid attention to a recruiting class before...
Re-ranks will very likely make the races tight before it's all over.

Yep.
And a class ranking can actually be a misleading indicator of how valuable a school's class truly is. How well the school met it's top priority needs is a very important factor in that regard, but overall class score and ranking include zero consideration of that. But, it's also not very feasible.
However, another flaw in the player rankings (imo) that also distorts team class scores and rankings is the undervaluing of some positions such as OC, OG, TE, kicker and punter. Also, some OLs get rated at OT, apparently because that's their HS position, who'll probably play interior OL in college and probably would be rated higher as an interior OL prospect.

It’s good for a minimum threshold.

UGA and Clemson are two of the dirtiest programs running right now. Whoever writes the bigger check at the end

I can't speak for best of all time but I know they have a more than legitimate chance at landing the #1-4 players in this class. (24/7 rankings)
You do realize that Clemson isn't necessarily a lock to have the #1 class this year just yet - YES, Clemson is the favorite to have the #1 as of class today, but there are scenarios where UGA could overtake them that aren't far-fetched. Possibly others as well.

UGA is a hat on the table for FLOWE. Obviously the Dawgs would love to have him but their #1 target for ILB is SEWELL. He different.

Georgia may end up 1 due to the gay way krootin services go about formulating rankings, but pound for pound this Clemson class is on a different level to anything that’s been seen in a long time.

Just stop.
Georgia fans have heard for years from other fanbases that we have so much talent in state that we should dominate recruiting. Hell, we watched more than a few blue chippers we really wanted leave the state.
So when we do start owning Georgia in recruiting, we're now dropping bags. Which is it, cause you can't have it both ways.

Don't count out USC. If they hire a good coach (Urban, perhaps) they'll still be in it.

Urban is such a terrible idea. Seriously, Urban and SC deserve each other if that happens.

I agree. Clemson's class will likely be 20-22 kids... I don't see how we stay at #1 with that small of a class. It will be a great class, probably our best to date.

Up to a point...
If one class has 10 guys that are all top 50 with 10 others that are top 150 guys and another class has 10 guys that are all top 50 with 15+ other guys that are all top 250 guys
You've got a class of 20 vs a class of 25... both of them have similar level top ends, and they both have quality depth, one has added more depth.
Functionally, NONE of the recruiting services do a good job of addressing what actually matters in a class which is needs/priorities in classes relative to holes on rosters, but that would be super subjective.
A few good metrics to evaluate a class on other than "247 Composite Team Rankings" in the end:
1) Avg recruiting rating of all players signed
2) Avg recruiting rating of all players signed who are not specialists (we know kickers/punters/long snappers will never be 4/5* regardless of whether they could punt 100 yards or kick a 70 yard field goal)
3) Median rating of the class (line them up sequentially and pick the rating of the prospect in the middle of the lineup for those who have forgotten some of the less frequently used math terms) - This one is a little less frequently used, but a good indicator for distribution of ratings in a class... ~50% of the total class rated higher than this number - helps offset some really low rated kids that might be taken on as projects
I think the class rankings do a decent enough job of trying to minimize the size differential and focus in on top end talent, but as with anything, no single system can ever get it all right.

With 100% information yes. However, kids grow so much and at different speeds in college. The best 2 defenders UGA has had in the last 5 years have been 3*s who didn't start immediately. You need to also pull in less heralded kids with potential to really maximize your talent.
