You have a great point (I just think you are selling Roquan a little short not including him in the 2 best defenders).

With 100% information yes. However, kids grow so much and at different speeds in college. The best 2 defenders UGA has had in the last 5 years have been 3*s who didn't start immediately. You need to also pull in less heralded kids with potential to really maximize your talent.

This is why aggregate team scores tend to be more valuable than any one prospect's score. Some kids overperform and others underperform their recruiting rating. It would be VERY abnormal for a staff to take 100% 2-3* athletes and end up with a better roster than a staff that took 100% 4-5*

So in aggregate, quality of recruiting rankings still matters to at least some degree. Outliers don't negate the value of the ratings.

Forgot he was a 4* instead of a 3. Well, 2/3 of the best defenders have been 3* players.

Ro was a high 4 star.
#47 in the country.
#5 OLB in the country.
.9769 in the composite.

Any player over .9400 has a 50/50 chance of being a great college player (pushing for all conference honors).

He was always a big deal in recruiting.

I think there was a Clemson poster earlier in the year stating they weren’t signing a full class this year.
If they only sign 22 or 23 someone could possibly pass them.

Who is the other 3* I can’t think of at the moment?

We need some hints:

What does he look like?
What position did he play?

Best recent 3*s are DeAndre Baker, Eric Stokes, Jordan Davis.

Monty Rice was a low 4* (#334 in the country, #18 ilb in the country, .8906 ranking). Below .8999, you are probably looking at just better than 1 in 10 players pushing for all conference honors.
