If engineering is REALLY that important to him, then the choice would be GaTech and then ...........UF and then .........Auburn. It should be noted that he would be better off going to Alabama Huntsville than Alabama for engineering. And here's the kicker, UGA's piddling little engineering program is more highly ranked than UA's. However, any football player that says engineering is what he wants to major in and then doesn't accept an offer to GaTech ain't THAT interested in engineering.
I have no idea where he will end up, but the fact that UGA is sitting on one LBer commit right now and you haven't heard of new offers going out makes me think that the coaches at least are pretty confident in their remaining targets.

how much do you know about the UGA engineering program? I'm not all that familiar other than it being very new.

The College of Environmental and Agricultural Engineering has been around forever at UGA. I think they are gradually expanding the engineering program at UGA, but the problem has never been quality necessarily- just a very narrowly defined program. To be honest with you, it has never bothered me. Why double up programs when one state school already does one of the best jobs in the world at it. The only real reason they are pushing for a new medical school at UGA is for research dollars.

Specifically, getting the medical school would make UGA a shoe-in for AAU membership. Redefining/expanding the engineering program will help toward that end as well.

If that vaccine against certain forms of breast and pancreatic cancer sails through clinical trials, then UGA may be rolling in cash in a few years.

The US News & World Report seems to differ on that notion. They don't even have Georgia rated. Alabama is ranked #122 in the country. Having graduated from Alabama with a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering, and participated in the co-op system as an undergrad, I don't think I've ever ran across someone who graduated from the UGa program. I've encountered people from GT, Florida, Miss State, Auburn, and even Ole Miss, but never UGa. I know it exists, but it seems that if it was as good as you suggest, there would be more about it out there.

That same list has University of Georgia ranked 107. Hell, I was pretty surprised myself at that. However, UGA only currently has a biological and agricultural engineering program so I could see how you probably wouldn't work with any UGA grads. Their civil engineering program is set to start up in 2012. They will also add an electrical and mechanical emphasis in coming years as well.

I honestly don't see how a program that small, without even having the most basic of engineering disciplines, can be ranked ahead of some of the programs on that list. Regardless, I expect Alabama to have a major jump over the next few years after the 200 million infused into facilities for the College of Engineering, as well as the increased enrollment, research, and funding.

I'm going to guess that UGa's biological engineering, and thus medical research, is attached to the Athens campus. I would suspect that's a reason for the higher rating. UA does not have that program. It's attached with the medical school in Birmingham. Lots of research and money not present for Alabama there.
Edit: Alabama did add the Biological tract in 2004. I forget about that. Though it still doesn't get the research and funding that the program in Birmingham does. Much in the same manner as Aerospace and Aeronautical in Hunstville.

Believe me, no one is more taken aback at that ranking than me. Who knew? Most clinical medical research going on at MCG in Augusta, but yeah, biochemistry research has definitely been on the rise in Athens. I am pretty sure that vaccine came out of the fancy new complex carbohydrate research facility.

I think GA possibly leads. They were all over Josh Dawson of Tucker GA....a 4 star DE that is committed to Vanderbilt. He was strongly reconsidering his commitment to Vanderbilt and leaning to GA and they dropped him about 2 weeks ago like he didn't even exist. This is about the same time that things started heating up with GA/Jordan Jenkins. Coincidence....possibly...but my gut tells me that GA feels like they have him or that would have kept pursuing Dawson. Another reason that I think Jenkins is leaning to GA is the show he is announcing on is basically a GA Homer show. Would the #1 Recruit in the state go to a non-GA school on this show.....seems unlikely.
FWIW...I don't think Brandon Greene changes his commitment from AL.

I don't put much credence in where a prospect announces. Trey DePriest announced in front of a pro-Ohio State crowd in his hometown of Springfield.

I wouldn't either, no different than the date not mattering. I think Jenkins just wanted to give a meaningful announcement on a televised format, and this is a good opportunity for him to do so.

I hope you are both correct!

There's a story behind the announcement time and date. I'm surprised a UGA mod hasn't explained it to UGA fans.
Posted on 12/27/11 at 10:00 am to gatordmb89
What? That the date was supposed to be the 10th but it got pushed back to the 9th?
Posted on 12/27/11 at 10:05 am to tylerdurden24
Nope. I'm sure your mods know the story, and will feel you in on it. I cannot post it here because it's premium information though.

Massive tease of a post. Do you still maintain your believe that UF has a shot, or do you feel it is now a Bama/UGA battle?
Posted on 12/27/11 at 3:57 pm to bamasgot13
Yes, I believe UF is in it with Bama. I also believe that UGA mods are doing what they do best, and that's blow smoke up their subscribers arse'. They have NEVER been a main player for JJ, and they still aren't. Ronald Jenkins hates UGA media, and would never tell them anything noteworthy.
UGA didn't make up ground from 4th to 2nd, in 2 weeks. Their mods are full of shite.

I still think he ends up at Bama, but I'm not as confident as I once was on that. At the beginning of Dec. I would have said it was a 70/30 chance. Now I'd say 55/45.
