Or maybe we try to enter the state so we can get the big time player once in a while. We don't need to recruit Georgia when we have probably the best talent pool in our backyard and another grest talent pool right next door. But it never hurts having some type of presence in the state. I doubt we ever become a big player in the state of georgia, but we are just establishing a presence so we can get a big time player out of the state every once in a while

This level of out of state interest should be expected. Georgia produces the 4th most D1 players of any state most years, behind only California, Texas, and Florida. I doubt it'll ever catch up to those three states, but Georgia is only growing and the gap between them and Ohio, the Carolinas, and so on will continue to grow.

Oh it's expected. Every frickin' year.
On the plus side, like you mentioned, Georgia produces a ton of football talent every year which UGA can and does take advantage of. Makes it a lot easier to maintain a high talent base on the team. Tennessee, the Mississippis, Kentucky, etc. have it much harder because they must poach heavily out of state, plus work like fiends to keep the smaller pool of in-state talent at home.

Normally our region is so loaded with talent, there's really no need to venture too far out east although there's no denying the talent that comes from Georgia or Florida as well. We recruit Louisiana pretty hard but A&M resides in east Texas, and well, east Texas and Louisiana are simular in a lot of ways to the point that recruits don't tend to feel homesick, out of place, all of that.

LSU is incredibly lucky in that regard. LSU has some out of state competition for LA players, but will get 75-80% of those offered - and that's a pretty conservative estimate. Most years we'll get all but 1-2 of the ~15 we offer.

I honestly can't remember one player we ever even tried to recruit from Louisiana that LSU wanted. It just ain't worth it. Alabama could maybe swipe one, or a Texas school, but we would have zero chance.
La border = closed to UGA.
Which is why it's nice that our in-state talent is so plentiful, plus we successfully raid every border state except Alabama for top talent.

Agreed, we need a high-energy, high-involement coach and staff to be able to recruit in the top tier.
Fulmer got lazy, Kiffin was a sneaky f#ck, and Dooley honestly looked like he didn't give a shite. But CBJ and his staff is exactly what we need in terms of recruiting energy. We locked down 8 of the top 11 in TN in 2014 (and i think 4 of the top 100 in GA?) I think were in on 1 or 2 of the top 10 2015 UGA kids already.

Tennessee (and Auburn, but especially Tennessee) is at it's very best when it is gouging Georgia for top talent. Not hidden gems, although they are there, but the kind of top talent that UGA and everyone else wants. Tennessee has to have that, and they are starting to get there again. Which sucks because for awhile, aside from an Eric Berry or two, we had effectively slammed the door shut on Tennessee in Georgia, and were even stealing a good one or two from the state of Tennessee.
That seems to be changing a bit with the new Vol regime.

Too low.
IMO:
1. UGA
2. Auburn
3. Bama
4. Clemson
5. Tennessee (Northern/Metro Atlanta) or FSU (South GA)

It works both ways. If Georgia wants to pull a rabbit out of a hat in the state of Texas, he'd better be a damn good magician.
Why would we go to Texas to recruit? It hasn't helped A&M.

Apparently your coaches are doing a poor job evaluating all that talent, then.

This is true. As you said...we are getting better, but there is a huge gap between us and the upper three states.

Because Bama and Auburn get all the good players in Georgia. I can't imagine how ashamed I would be if LSU and OU took every single last good recruit in Texas. Has to be tough.

You are laying down some truth

Let’s say this holds true, that A&M has done a good job at keeping in-state talent. So how do you explain not winning a damn thing since the start of WWII? Embarrassed or ashamed?

We didn't start recruiting at this level until recently. We also have several in state programs to deal with that recruit well. You are the only real program in your state. You should get every top player in Georgia

Not true. Georgia Southern kicked the ever-lovin' shite out of Florida in The Swamp last year.
So we've got two in-state programs that are dominant. Only two, but still.

How many D1 schools are in Georgia again? 2?
Nobody "keeps" in-state talent in TX. There's 11 D1 football programs in TX + a good chunk of the nation pulling out of it.
