Hypothetical: Nkemdiche eligible for 2013 draft, where does he go?

I was talking with a friend about the age limit in the NBA. There has been some talk about the 3-year out of high school rule in the NFL being too much in cases like Clowney. So I was wondering, say Robert Nkemdiche was eligible for this upcoming draft. Where does he go in the draft? I would say late 1st or the 2nd round just on pure potential alone. I think NFL teams would be a lot more likely to draft a DE out of high school than say a QB.

I would guess undrafted, but I have no idea really. I wouldn't think they would draft him with no game tape

Are you serious? Undrafted. He's a kid. He'd be eaten alive by grown arse men.

I would think sixth or seventh round as an investment i mean how many 7th round picks have the potential someone like Nkemdiche could someday have? He is an athlete so its not as risk as drafting a quarterback.

I knew you guys would say that, I was waiting for those answers before presenting this nugget.

Amobi Okoye was the 10th overall pick in 2007 when he was 19 years old. He was eligible at that age because he graduated college early since he was ridiculously smart.

So does his intelligence have anything to do with him being judged likely to succeed at that age? Of course not. He was drafted early on potential. He never amounted to much, but you're meaning to tell me a 19-year-old Okoye is worth the 10th overall pick, but an 18-year-old Nkemdiche wouldn't even be drafted? I highly doubt that.

If you want to make the argument that Okoye was tested by college competition, that's valid, but one year of age does not differentiate a top 10 pick and completely undrafted in my opinion.

TL/DR

Undrafted, this OP is retarded....only d-lineman that could've ever gone straight to the NFL woulda been Clowney. And outta HS, he woulda been maaaaybe a 6th rounder.

Okoye graduated high school early. The League had 3 years of college film on okoye before they drafted him. So much fail in the OP. First fricking round?

NFL teams can only hold 52 players on their roster during the season, there is no room to stash a player for 4-5 years on the roster to develop.

Someone would take a 7th round flyer. Theoretically it would take 3-4 years before he could he physically prepared to contribute. 4 year contracts are the norm for lower picks, so a team is basically grabbing his rights for his RFA year, sort of like baseball but with baseball you can own a guy for 7 years or so because of arbitration. In the NFL unless you franchise a player you can't hang on to them forever.

I recall this discussion way back when Tim Couch was the #1 prospect in the nation. Some NFL people said he was the first prospect they ever saw who would get drafted at 18 so they could sit on him and that would have been teams using a 7th. He eneded up as the #1 overall, so at might have been a worthwhile investment. Of course, he ended up sucking IN the NFL anyway. Nothing is certain in pro football.

Not sure if he would be drafted or not, i would say the only thing that would hold it back is not seeing game speed anywhere close to the NFL.

I think that is more important than putting on weight and conditioning in college.

It would all depend on his workouts. I mean all these guys are saying he's a kid but they aren't taking into account he's a 6'5" 260lb kid. Depending completely on his workouts he could go as high as the 20's in the 1st. GM's would see a kid that is physically just as gifted with an extra 3 years on his career.
