His class jumped to #2 his second year and really hasn’t fallen since.

His 2017 class included:

1 5-star from the state of Georgia
12 4-stars from the state Georgia

They had other 4-star players from other states, too.

For reference, in that same year:

#7. LSU had a total of 1 5-star and 14 4-stars
#9. Auburn had a total of 1 5-star and 10 4-stars

So, Georgia's in-state talent makes it a bit easier to make a quick turnaround in recruiting.

Note...the next year they had:

4 5-stars from the state of Georgia
5 4-stars from the state of Georgia

This helped give them the #1 class for 2018.

Kirby didn’t have NIL when he started at Georgia. He’s been there for quite a few years now. He was always a good recruiter

He used the Nick Saban method.

It's pretty simple. Some coaches love recruiting and some don't but realize they need to do it.

UGA is a great academic school compared to other SEC schools except for UF, Sandy, and A&M.

Maybe this might sound good when speaking with parents but UGA is not pulling in top recruits because it is a top academic destination. Vandy is probably the only school in the SEC that actually may be a consideration for football players hence why they are always on the bottom of the conference.

Kirby is and always has been an elite and relentless recruiter who relates well with recruits. Kelly apparently was not a relentless recruiter while he was at Notre Dame.

I 100% agree that most D1 athletes are not basing their football decision on academic rankings; but as you said, it doesn't hurt at all, especially when speaking to to the parents.

I don’t get why it’s debated anymore. Players go where the money is…Ooh NIL shows up and all of a sudden it’s about the money. It’s always been about the money to begin with. If both schools are paying top dollar then it’s about the coaches. But if one school is loading it up…keeping kids safe from the law etc, they winning. Saban showed him how or he would be another Muschamp.

This and the fact that Athens is very likely the best college town in the SEC.

There is a corridor at the Butts-Mehre Building that is known as the NFL pipeline.

Kirby emphasizes that if you come to Georgia you will be NFL trained and ready by the time you leave.

Yes, Smart has recruited well, but Richt also recruited well. Smart established a mindset that didn't exist previously, and it translated into even better recruiting.

Winning does that.

Simply put:

State of Georgia talent A+
Mark Richt recruiting A-
Mark Richt developement C+
Mark Richt tenacity D
In-game adjustments C

State of Georgia talent A+
Kirby Smart recruiting A+
KS development A+
KS tenacity A+
In-game adjustments A+

In Kirby’s first several years his in game coaching/adjustments was his biggest problem (look at the failed fake FG at LSU in 2018 and the failed Justin Fields fake punt) both were bad coaching decisions. He’s learned from his mistakes and he has evolved as a HC

Kirby recruits the OL and DL better as well. Richt got some fancy skill players, but we struggled up front at times
