I hope the coaches get this right and make sure he knows they have faith in him. He has a powerful message and a powerful voice in recruiting and it would be a huge blow to lose that.

Muschamp's Twitter acct is being blown up by Gamecock fans who are absolutely livid about it. And like you alluded to, the outrage on our fans' part is more about losing Hilinski as a person than it is about losing an athlete.

What a dumb shite move if Hilinski is solid. He’s legit AF. I would take him in our class and shut it down.

You know why? Because we blew up Muschamp's Twitter acct last night and he called Ryan because of it. Muschamp said he got wind of the "budding crisis and nipped it in the bud" and called Hilinski immediately.
I mean, there was a melt down of Chernobyl proportions going on.

Well, it didn't take long for Muschamp to get wind of a budding crisis and nip it in the bud. Later Monday night Hilinski got a text from Muschamp asking him to give him a call.
"He just reaffirmed what I was going through and not to worry because that's just what they are going to do in our class," Hilinski said. "I'm his guy is what he said. He wants to build the program with me. I talked to him and had a great conversation with him. My dad talked to Coach (Bryan) McClendon as well so everything was settled. Nothing to worry about anymore. I was just a little confused at the time is all. They are definitely going to let me know in the future what they decide (about offering QBs). I'll definitely be the first to know. I'm not worried about that at all."
Hilinski is still receiving offers despite his commit to the Gamecocks in early April. LSU, Ohio State and UCLA are three of his most recent offers. He said he has kept Muschamp in the loop on those offers and he doesn't expect anything to materialize from them.
quote:
"They are great schools and I think it just solidifies that all my hard work is paying off," he said. "I told them it doesn't really affect my commitment to them at all and they shouldn't be worried. They are the first people I call once I get those offers and then I tell Twitter. They know before I push it out on Twitter and they're not surprised."
And thus far, Hilinski said, the other schools recruiting against the Gamecocks for his services are taking the high road.
"They have great things to say about South Carolina and Coach Muschamp and I respect them for that of course. But they are trying to get me to visit and see what's it's like for myself there. I don't know if I'm going to take anymore visits. I probably won't but it's always safe to have something in your back pocket in case something happens. But, after talking to Coach Muschamp, I feel confident that I have South Carolina in my front pocket and I don't need to worry about anything in my back pocket."

I've been lurking in the background shaking my head. A recruit afraid of competition and the coach telling him not to worry, he is his guy? This is what separates these programs from the programs where recruits goes to compete for the job. I would tell the recruit to come in and compete for the job. If it don't work out you can always transfer to L7U.

I’m obviously not crazy about our staff not notifying him that we are going to offer other QBs, but this is just standard practice in recruiting.
When dealing with 18 year olds, anything can change. If he were to decommit, especially late in the process, not having a QB in this class could be crippling for the program. I’m fine that we want to keep others on the radar for insurance sake, but Hilinski absolutely has to be treated like the top dog he is and be kept in the fold on recruiting additional QBs.
I still have nothing but the utmost confidence in our staff’s recruiting abilities. This just seems like a simple communication error that won’t happen again down the road.

He's a gamecock until he's not, and our "fans" freaking out tweeting a 17 year old kid, are not going to change his mind if he was thinking about decommitting.
It baffles me how people with no life other than stalking 17 year olds think they can tell Will Muschamp how to recruit.

Creepy af. Adults don't need to be tweeting high school kids.

This whole scenario was blown out of proportion, by all parties involved. I respect RH for notifying the coaches that he would be posting his offers on twitter -- pretty mature move, IMO. At the same time, until the ink dries for him, it is fair game for us to offer other QB's. 17-18 year old kids are fickle as hell.

Bumped to the #55 overall by rivals in their recent update.

That brought his composite ranking way up, now the #2 pro style QB in the class. Still waiting on 247 to update their rankings, they have him as a 92, he should at least be a 95 at next update.

It is fair game, but you have to understand how it’ll effect the kids recruitment. He may get easily offended. It’s not like USC is pullin in QBs like this every year.

All of that has settled since then
