He's not going overseas. Not even considering it.
Recently his own father said if he were Malik he would go overseas, certainly seems like it's at least on the backburner. Fastest way to real money. No guarantee he could even 1 and done and get drafted in the 1st round for the NBA.

“We have [heard from overseas teams],” Horatio Webster, Newman’s father, told Daniels. “One time he asked me about what it would be like overseas and then another time, he says ‘No dad I’m not going to do that.’ Of course I’m not going to make him do it.”

So he goes back and forth on it. He's definitely considering it though.

The only reason Mudiay went overseas is because he didn't have the grades to go to SMU. It would be a culture shock for Malik and the coaches wouldn't help him develop like he should. Most scouts still consider Mudiay extremely raw.

Asking about it one time and then saying "No I'm not doing that" is not going back and forth on it. Plus his friend Mudiay had a terrible experience over there and didnt get the shoe deal he was expecting.

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio is saying that Newman has a weird situation with folks around him. Newman has been a Kentucky lean for the past 2 years, and now it is sounding that he may go overseas to play ball and then go to the draft. Weird situation, but...but it looks like it is 50/50 he is going to skip college and work on his skills in another country.

A.K.A. he wants a lot of money now. After seeing him recently I think it might be best for him to go overseas. I don't think he's a certain 1 and done and if he is might not get drafted in the 1st round. He seems pretty behind all the other elite players in this class.

Wut... He is projected to go top ten in every major mock draft.

That's what Skal was going to do until he ended up at Kentucky

You're talking about a mock draft for 2016, the guy hasn't played a minute out of high school yet. Based on him in all the all-star events, he hasn't really performed that well against other elite players. He didn't look like he's a sure fire lottery pick by any means in any of those events.

Looks like you think LSU may be out of it. At least that's what I took from these posts

Skal's situation is a tad different though. Skal was and possibly still is facing problems with eligibility. He'll likely just sit a few games until he's cleared as of now, but that's why he was originally looking to heading overseas.

So he kicked arse? Sorry you cant see it for what it is.
Nobody knows what Malik is doing, you don't, I don't, Jerry Meyer sure doesn't have clue #1 changing his crystal ball every week and hell possibly even his own dad doesn't. The fact is I haven't seen him perform at a top level against top level competition. He might not be the sure fire lottery pick some make him out to be as a 1 and done.
He wants to a be a PG but when he tries to be one he forgets he's a great scorer and looked awful during the McD AA scrimmage & game. When he plays off guard he's much more effective when he's not thinking about how to get others constantly involved. If he truly wants to be a PG, he's got a LOT of work to do there.

He's also the only player to win back-to-back MVP's at the U-17 national tournament. I understand we should watch him play college basketball before saying he's a sure thing first rounder, but Malik isn't worried about whether he is good enough to be a one and done player.

The Harrison twins were Top 10 prospects, I'll leave it there.

And I'm not saying he will or wont be a 1 and done lottery pick, just haven't seen enough in him to be that kind of quick track to the NBA, especially wanting to be a PG so bad and looking much worse than simply playing to score. I think he's afraid if he's seen as a pure SG his stock wont be very high being 6'2-6'3.
Also, I'm sure Malik has the confidence to be a high pick 1 and done, that wasn't my point, my point was, at least his dad, has money on their mind, and now. Being the kind of prospect he is he could be just like Mudiay and bag 1 million playing barely overseas not hurting his NBA stock vs. college where he could vastly kill his stock if he's so dead set on playing PG.
The overseas route makes a ton of sense for him.

According to Twitter Malik Newman will not be taking any official visits. Looks good for the team he has been two since he was a toddler.
