If you'd go back and look, this thread has been objective by everyone but LSU fans. Y'all have turned this into a roast because you think there is no way Malik would go play in "Starkghanistan for #failstate lololol."

I didn't say any of that

As if being from Mississippi, father playing at MSU, Howland having a long list of current NBA players, and growing up an MSU fan wouldn't play a role, or that LSU wouldn't offer something on the table as well.
Not everyone ejaculates over Baton Rouge or LSU the way most of y'all want to believe

I'm not saying state doesn't have strong selling points. It just seems well-known newman wants to play with top tier talent, and if that's in fact a huge factor then I don't see him going to State. State will have some quality players, sure, but this isn't the SEC of the past

No one has said Baton Rouge is a sprawling utopia, no does anyone splooge over the idea of playing basketball at LSU. they probably do at the idea of Simmons, Blakeney, and Newman playing together though

yeah, that seems to be well-known. I don't think all of their guards are going to get their ideal draft grade fortunately. It is a pretty big reason why I'll be a huge Wisconsin fan this weekend though

What if Cal goes to the NBA?

then I'd say Kentucky has little to no chance of signing him. It'd definitely tilt heavily in LSU, State, and Kansas' favor

That's what I would think. I think the chances of the guards going pro are greater if UK wins it all, but so are the chances Cal goes NBA.

You can't help but think Noah Dickerson would pack his bags for LSU

Now there have been some stupid things said in this thread, but this has to take the cake.

Avery Johnson ain't getting Malik. He would probably laugh in his face at his 5 year old girl voice.

Newman said the draw of following in his dad's footsteps has never been a huge consideration for him or his father, but Newman also said it would "be a great thing to follow his legacy."

He added: "But if I didn't go there, I don't think he'd be mad."

LSU, working on a terrific 2015 class that already includes No. 1 player Ben Simmons and five-star guard Antonio Blakeney, is seen as having some recent momentum with Newman, who visited Baton Rouge for the Tigers' game against Kentucky.

He said LSU's coaches have talked a lot with him about the Tigers already have an elite class in the works.

"The biggest thing they're telling me is they need me as a point guard," he said. "They're recruiting me for the point guard. I think Antonio and Ben are doing a great job recruiting me also. They are telling me to come in, and they'll give me the keys, I can run the show, and they'll let me do my thing and all us can just get in and get out."

Whereas LSU is recruiting Newman to run the point guard – the position he has played primarily in high school, club ball and with Team USA – he said Kentucky wants him to play more of a combo-guard role "but mainly the '2.'"

Asked if he prefers LSU's pitch to play primarily the point or UK's pitch to play primarily off the ball, Newman said, "It just depends on the players around me and the position I'm needed to play."

UK figures to have point guard Tyler Ulis back for his sophomore year, and it's signed five-star point guard and McDonald's All American Isaiah Briscoe. It's also possible that shooting guard/projected first-round draft pick Devin Booker, who also is from Mississippi, could return to UK.

***KY based article so not a home cooked opinion***

Newman has the most low key recruitment I can remember

he certainly has LSU, Kentucky, and State all feeling good, not great about their chances

I could bring up the articles that had been written by KY sites that say good things about State but I'm not because it doesn't matter. The dude is just telling people what they want to hear.

The only reason I think State gets him now is because Tookie Brown was just released from his LOI today which frees up a spot in this class.

Y'all still are at the limit. Ray signed three prospects, but you're only losing two guys. Still at 13 scholarships for next year.
