His high school QB is there.

Okay? When I was in High School, (many, many, many years ago) my QB went to Tennessee. (I played WR) There is no way in the world I would have gone to Tennessee to play with him, and we got along fine.

I agree if he is having problems....but nobody seems to know definitively that he has any problems.

Per NCCA bylaws, if a player enters the transfer portal, the school can choose to not renew his scholarship, regardless of whether he actually transfers to another school.

I understand that, but the poster i was responding to said that it was a common thing for a school to pull a players financial aid once he enters the portal. Have you heard of a school that has done that? I mean, once the kid transfers, obviously....but just because he has entered the portal?

Can it happen? Yes. But has it ever happened? Not that I am aware of.

ETA
I see Porter already answered that. It has happened once, that we know of. I am pretty sure I read somewhere that well over a thousand kids have entered the portal since it has been around.

Tennessee is more relevant than Missouri?

It probably happens more than is publicized, especially graduates or guys low on the depth chart when room is needed under the 85 limit.

I'm pretty sure the rule doesn't enable schools to cancel financial aid for the current academic term in which they enter the portal, but does allow them to cancel it for the next term.

So which program is that? UGA?

And you might be right, but processing has been going on for a long time. And...I would think if it was happening a lot some players would be coming out and talking about it.

I mean, I guess there is no way for us to prove our point one way or the other.

Some of our insiders are feeling pretty good about him. We'll see, though.

I've heard he reached out to Bama, but I'm not sure yet if they'll have room.

Don’t want him. Not a position of need and he’s a locker room cancer.

Welp, I guess he'll have to transfer somewhere else then.

Ah! Gotcha! I wish people would stop stating things as fact when what they are saying is based on a rumor.

Thanks for clarifying.

Farrell’s take: FICTION. I know it seems like it would make sense with Georgia's shot at the playoff next season and talk of the former five-star being homesick, but I still expect him to end up at Tennessee to play with his high school quarterback Harrison Bailey.

Remember that the Vols were the first program to recruit him as a receiver and he has a good relationship with the staff. Let’s be honest, Gilbert is a freak talent who will be off to the NFL in a couple of years no matter where he lands, so why not reunite with his old QB at a program that is close enough to home?

Gorney’s take: FICTION. I’m pretty confident he’s going to end up in the SEC and Georgia is definitely one of the programs going after him, but throughout his first recruitment, he seemed lukewarm about the Bulldogs and their use of tight ends. This season, no Georgia tight end had more than 10 catches. That is going to be a concern of Gilbert’s as I’m sure other coaching staffs have promised him the world. I wouldn’t count out Florida or Alabama for him, but Tennessee makes a lot of sense as well.

If Farrell says Fiction this dude is without a doubt getting his undergrad and masters degree at UGA before foregoing the NFL and joining Kirby's staff.

If he doesn't come here I can't think of a better SEC team to go to than Tennessee.

(okay. judging by the down votes I see most did not pick up on my subtle attempt at humor. I meant Tennessee would be good for him because they are really struggling and he probably would not turn them around singlehandedly.)

Only thing is that this article appears to be written before today’s announcements about freezes and what not on staff due to the investigation and now that Hooker is transferring does that change anything with the high school QB angle?
