Here is the official release via UA Media Relations:

Alabama Football Announces Hiring of Paul Gonnella
University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced Friday the hiring of Paul Gonnella as Alabama’s Director of Player Personnel. Gonnella spent the last year in the same role at Purdue and will take over for Ed Marynowitz, who recently accepted a position with the Philadelphia Eagles.

“We are very pleased to have Paul join our staff,” said Saban. “His knowledge and experience organizing our recruiting operation will be an asset in the future of our football program.”

At Alabama, Gonnella’s main charge will be to direct the recruiting efforts for the Crimson Tide. He will also assist with camps, clinics and other football-related events. In addition, his responsibilities will include assisting with the administration and operation of the football program.

“I’m both honored and excited to be here at the University of Alabama,” said Gonnella. “Coach Saban is the best in the country when it comes to all of the aspects that go into leading a football program. That fact, combined with the history and tradition at Alabama, it doesn’t get any better. I just want to do my part to contribute and keep everything going in the same direction that it has been under Coach Saban the last several years.”

Prior to serving as the Director of Player Personnel at Purdue, Gonnella held that title in 2010 at the University of Memphis. He has also spent time at Miami, Tennessee and North Carolina in similar roles and capacities.

A native of Wakefield, Mass., Gonnella began his career as a coach and has worked with high schools in his home state as well as in Georgia. He served as the head football coach at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Cambridge, Mass., worked as a defensive graduate assistant and in quality control at Mississippi State, and also served on the staffs at Lovejoy (Ga.) and Somerville (Mass.) High Schools.

True. I just remember hearing he was there. Was he also at Miami for the Shapiro thing?

Honestly.....I don't have a good feeling about Foster. No hard evidence, just a gut feeling. I'm not being cryptic either. I've tried to tell BOL and they just get pissed. Only want sunshine over there.

There was a point last year when a certain player was committed to Auburn. The other side knew he had flipped, but everything, including his visits and contact with the coaches, was kept as hush hush as possible. Nothing but rumor and innuendo until it became official.

I think that's what you're seeing here.

He strikes me as a world class attention whore who is eating up the massive amount of it he is getting from everyone around him these days.

He is starting to sound like way more trouble than he is worth, and perhaps a NCAA magnet. Would still love to have him though.

If the baggage following Foster is true I could care less where he ends up. I just hope it works out for him whatever he does. Way to many recruits in this class to get worried about one.

I know it will get the AU fans all wet and excited if he did flip, but Yeldon will do far greater things at UA than Foster could at AU. So I will take the trade.

Now for the AU fan that is lurking and ready to run over to their thread to post as if UA fans are very concerned, enjoy. But I feel a little sympathetic that an AU fan's only enjoyment is reading an UA board and hoping for scraps.

I think you misunderstood his "bad feeling". In the since of it being "he's gonna flip"...

It seems like he's buying whatever auburn is selling. I hope that it's just an act to fit in at auburn HS but something just doesn't feel right about him ever since he spurned Oxford HS at the last minute.

Good ole TJ. I knew when he visited Bama several times. Was told to keep quiet.
