What have you been up to since signing day?
“I have been getting ready for graduation and working out more. I know it’s going to be tough when I get down there, so I want to be prepared.”
What are your thought on the Alabama strength and conditioning program?
“It’s a lot to do, but I know that is what I have to do to be ready…so that’s what I have been doing.”
What is your current height and weight?
“My height is 6’3.5 and I weigh 330 pounds.”
When will you be arriving on campus?
“I am supposed to be up there on May 27th, but right now I am just trying to get my grades right so I can qualify with the NCAA.”
What is your academic situation right now?
“It isn’t that for real, just got to get my credits from my last classes and send my transcript to the NCAA.”
Do you know who your roommates will be?
“I know one will be Caleb Gulledge.”
Have you chosen a major yet?
“No sir, not yet, but probably something to do with sports.”
Have you been told what number you will be wearing while at Alabama?
“I am probably wearing 95.”
Other than football, is there anything that you are looking forward to once you get on campus?
“Just working with my teammates and getting to know them and the coaches better.”
Are there any players that you model your playing style after?
“There is a few Alabama guys that I model my playing style after: Marcel Dareus, Josh Chapman, Terrance Cody and Courtney Upshaw. I know that he (Upshaw) lined up at linebacker, but he was always going at it.”

What are your thoughts on Alabama’s success at the NFL Draft?
“It just lets me know that if I can go in there and do what I do, it can be me up there in four years.”

Cody Thomas just committed to Oklahoma FWIW.
With Bateman committing yesterday I expect the QB dominoes will fall rather quickly.

Man CNS runs recruiting. I bet other coaches really hate him on the low.

Sark kind of knew who we were as far as a football team and the type of players we put out. There was a relationship there. They actually went to Washington on a trip and looked at that place, too."
It is an ABSOLUTE MIRACLE that he didn't choose UW with those connections, this speaks 110% to how PHENOMENAL a recruiter Coach Nuss is ZOMG! DO YOU GUYS REALIZE THAT!! We've got an ace recruiter on our hands buddy

We talked in here earlier today about "what if" of teaching Matthew Thomas to be a SS. What is your take on that?
I'm late to the party, but this sounds just like the Kwon Alexander talk last year. They both were very quick twitch players(Kwon being a little faster overall), both played mostly rush roles for their defense, and both are a little small in HS for a 34 LB.
I'm not saying it's not possible, but isn't only brought up because he's 200 Lbs?
Posted on 5/17/12 at 12:50 pm to MagillaGuerilla
You are exactly right Magilla. Thomas needs a year with Cochran to either step up his speed and learn SS from Pruitt or a year with Cochran to add 20# of muscle for LB.

That kid will never play Safety for us

No need to get in a twist. It is a "what if" scenario based on a developing need. We are simply projecting options that "might" fill in behind the HaHa/Sunseri/Collins logjamb. The kids has skills and needs, we will have to see if we land him and how his needs/skills will be addressed.

Kwon may be faster, but I think Thomas is a better overall athlete.

Alabama recruiting writer Greg Ostendorf and beat writer Alex Scarborough bring you another edition of The TideNation mailbag, answering your questions about recruiting, football and basketball.
In this week's mailbag: •Will Reuben Foster flip?
•What possible visitor could commit this weekend?
•A look at a possible UA-WVU matchup
•How a playoff would affect Alabama
•And more...
Question: Are we going to lose Reuben Foster? Rumors are flying around after the interview the other day?
Greg Ostendorf: Personally, I don’t think Foster is going anywhere. In the video interview you’re talking about, he says there’s a chance he could flip and talks about how he could reach the NFL no matter what school he chooses. Obviously, with Foster transferring to Auburn (Ala.) High School recently, there’s been speculation that he’ll flip to Auburn. Before that, he was going to flip to Georgia. When it comes down to it, Alabama is the best fit for him and what he can do on defense. He’s not great playing in space, but in the Tide’s defense, he wouldn’t have to be exposed to that like he would in a more traditional 4-3 defense. I expect him to be used in a similar capacity to how Dont’a Hightower was used, and to me, that’s perfect for what Foster gives you on defense. He’s going to play the recruiting game and take all of his official visits, but ultimately, I think he signs with Alabama.
Q: Do you think there is any way we don’t grab a quarterback commit during the June camp?
GO: Before Wednesday, I would’ve said there’s no way Alabama leaves camp without pulling in a commitment from one of its quarterback targets. However, the staff went ahead and grabbed its top guy, Cooper Bateman, this week. The Utah native was planning to visit Tuscaloosa for the camp and throw in front of UA head coach Nick Saban. He might still visit, but there’s no need for him to throw with the Tide already seeing enough to take his commitment. There’s still a chance Alabama takes two signal callers in this class, and I’d expect the potential quarterback prospects who were scheduled to compete at the camp will still come and do just that. Adding another commit during the camp is unlikely but still possible.
Q: With news of Jonathan Allen visiting this week, is it crazy to expect a commitment from him?
GO: It’s not crazy at all. It’s a very good sign for Alabama that Allen is visiting Tuscaloosa. Sources had said he was very close to committing to Florida after the Gators’ spring game, but he waited because he wanted to visit Alabama. It still looks like a two-horse race between the Tide and the Gators, but UA has made up a lot of ground and could even pull ahead if Allen has a good visit this weekend. The ESPN 150 defensive end/linebacker wants to make a decision soon, and even if it doesn’t come this weekend, I’d expect him to make one by early June.
Q: How do you like the potential Alabama-West Virginia matchup?
Alex Scarborough: How do you size up a matchup that won’t take place until the 2014 season? Well, on the face of it, it’s a terrific opportunity for both schools. Alabama has made a habit of opening the season with top-25 bouts, facing Michigan this year and Virginia Tech in 2013. The benefits of scheduling marquee games to open the season is two-fold: schools rake in a lot of money and coaches get to test their teams' talents right away. Also, as we all know, losing a game in Week 1 is something that can be overcome. Pollsters will look favorably on scheduling such a high-profile non-conference opponent.
Q: Seriously, what is it going to take for baseball to perform on the level of (football), (softball), gymnastics, etc....?
AS: Many, many things, to be honest. Last week I wrote about the need for a new stadium to be built, in addition to allowing for assistance in scholarships. The lack of quality facilities and a Hope-like scholarship to ease the tuition cost are forcing the baseball staff into fighting an uphill battle. Besides those two things, there’s more to be considered. The coaching staff, starting with head coach Mitch Gaspard, has to do a better job developing the talent they have. The young pitching has done better than I expected, but the offense has been something less than anemic. It’s been hard to watch at times. Combine that with a lack of fan support and there’s many hurdles for Alabama to climb before it can rise to the likes of South Carolina, LSU and Texas.
Q: How do you think the potential changes in the postseason format will affect Alabama?
AS: In short, not very much. Whether it’s the top two teams that get in, the top four, or even the top 16, the chances of UA making a postseason tournament only go up. That said, the road will be longer and against more difficult opponents under those formats. Getting through a 12-game schedule in the SEC is tough enough, let alone throwing in another potential top-10 team before a title game. Now, if it turns out that only conference champions are allowed in, then that changes things drastically. As evidenced by this past season, the best team in the country doesn’t necessarily have to win its conference.

I want to see how he does at camps in coverage drills, that's the thing that spoiled the Kwon talk. Doesn't mean he still couldn't, but it does take a lot of wind out of it knowing his coverage isn't there right now.
