Tide assistant Lance Thompson was in the Hampton Roads/Virginia Beach area yesterday and dropped by Indian River High School, which is the home of SDE/DT Andrew Brown, 247Sports' no. 2 prospect in the 2014 cycle. UA did offer Brown, who was quite excited. We hope to have more on this a little later.

Delaney's comment about not having much regard for "that team", i.e. a team not winning its division, i.e. Bama

Was this Robinson article from a Texas site? Because it reeks of UT spin. It's LSU/Bama at the top.
Also, I like that the Bama players are taking Delaney's comments personally. Shoelace may get broken in half.

I think Saban is taking it personally as well. Heads will roll in Arlington on Sep. 1st.

I want a shutout so damn bad. 31-0 or 35-0 would be hilarious.

I need to cover at least 13.5, but 21 would be much better

Alabama checked in last week with McGill-Toolen quarterback Jason Smith last week to talk about where the 2013 recruit fits in its system. The three-star quarterback is a playmaker in the back field, but UA head coach Nick Saban sees him more on the defensive side of the ball at the college level.
"He told me straight up when I talked to him that he sees me as an NFL corner," Smith said. "The man knows what he's talking about, because he has been doing this for years. I didn't get mad at him at all, but I told him that I was a quarterback."
Saban told Smith if he committed to Alabama, he would get the opportunity to try out at the quarterback position. The head coach said he could see the 6-foot-1, 175-pound quarter back being useful in certain wildcat packages at the quarterback position.
There is no question what Smith can do on his legs at the quarterback position, however Saban said he wants to see more of what the athletic quarterback can do with his arms before putting him at the position. Smith is certain he can prove to Saban he is more than just an athlete at the quarterback position-all he is looking for is an opportunity.
"I'm willing to change if I just get that shot at quarterback," Smith said. "I make quick reads and my accuracy helps. I'm working on my throwing strengths, but I got it though."
Smith threw for accounted for more than 2,000 yards of total offense, passing for approximately 1,300 and rushing for more than 700.
Although he is not certain what his position would be at Alabama, Smith is certain that UA coaches would get the best out of him at any position. Smith said he was impressed with the intensity of Saban and praised the program for its success at getting players ready for the NFL.
Another school Smith has interest in is Auburn, which is not only recruiting him as solely a quarterback, but also offers a spread-style offense to show off his play-making ability. Smith said, because of those two factors, Auburn is high on his list of schools.
Both Alabama and Auburn are both pushing for a visit, not only from Smith, but also his parents. Parents are vital in the recruiting process, and with Smith it is no different. However, ultimately the choice of where he will spend the next four years is up to Smith.
"It's important for my parents to like the school, but they always tell me it is my decision and to find what's best for me," Smith said. "I listen to what they have to say. You can feed off of what they say, and you can go off your heart. My mom and dad said go with your heart and I'm going to do that."

Name: Eddie Vanderdoes
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 285 lbs.
Position: Defensive tackle
School: Placer (CA) Placer
Notes: Holds offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Boise State, California, Colorado, Fresno State, Georgia, Houston, Illinois, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Oregon State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, San Jose State, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington, and Washington State . . . Claims a 4.88 forty yard dash . . . Bench presses 305 lbs. . . . Squats 500 lbs. . . . As a junior in 2011, had 65 tackles, 10 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 safety
Strengths: Very athletic for such a big kid . . . Quick enough and explosive enough to leap over occasional cut blocks . . . Has a well developed swim move . . . Has the ability to get under opposing linemen's pads and bull rush . . . Devastating hitter when he squares up quarterbacks . . . Shows good straight line speed and very good lateral quickness . . . Has length to get separation from opposing linemen . . . Strong in both upper and lower body
Weaknesses: A bit of a freelancer . . . Too many spins and swims will get him washed out of plays against good linemen . . . Needs to strike his opponent with his hands first . . . Needs to improve hand placement and shedding blocks . . . Needs to work on stance, as he telegraphs loops and stunts . . . Plays a little high at times, which goes back to his stance . . . Needs to get up on the line of scrimmage rather than sitting back two or three feet . . . Could improve on feeling blocks and diagnosing plays . . . Hands, hands, hands
Projection: Nose tackle or 3-tech defensive tackle. Vanderdoes is a bull when he wants to be. He could play either defensive tackle position, and with his speed, he could probably even play strongside end in certain packages. Vanderdoes does a little too much freelancing and isn't technical enough right now. He has loads of athletic talent, but he's the type of kid who might take a couple years to adjust to college competition. Sometimes big kids get used to blowing everyone up without using their hands, and then it's not natural for them to do so when they face players who can stonewall them if they're not careful. He seems like a boom-or-bust type of player. He will either take to college coaching and become a monster, or he will fail to develop the technical aspects of his game and get lost in the shuffle.
