Someone could be a diehard tshirt sip, but I wouldn't know for hours because we could talk about the greatest sports franchise in the history of the world, The Dallas Cowboys, before it ever got brought up. It is just what happens when you grow up around professional sports teams that are successful.
Good post

I know right? It was like totally the same way for me with Central Missouri State Mule fans when talking about the other greatest sports franchise in the history of the world, the Mid-Missouri Mavericks! Parallels = creepy

I always worried about our d-backs being torched by the Pirate (our d-backs are very poorly coached) but for some reason, Pinkel (Jumbo) just owned him in a big way.

This thread is alive because of awesomeness. Nothing but win in here...well...maybe one douchey fail.

TAMU fans cannot let go of their obsession with Texas and a good bit of them cannot come to grips with the fact that SEC fans as a whole don't give two craps about Texas or the Big 12.
Missouri fans are pretty humble, seem to be a good natured bunch.
The football teams will both take their lumps for a while though, will be interesting to see if they adapt.

I like Mizzou more than I thought I would and I am having buyers remorse with A&M

Try not to lump all of us in with the obsessive bunch. Most are 100% focused and excited on our new home, and looking forward to visiting new venues and hosting new fans. Hell, i know i am!

The 1970s-early 2000s did a pretty damn good job humbling us.

LA kid but Auburn fan, unfortunately, I think you're right. Pro sports rule in Missouri, and as a huge fan of college sports, I wish it were different (although I'm a lifelong member of Cardinal Nation). Perhaps MU's joining the SEC and (hopefully) future success will engender a more rabid fan base, but they are up against an eastern half of the state which is utterly obsessed with the Cards, and to a lesser extent, a KC area which loves their Chiefs. Not to mention the fact that half the KC area is loyal to those disgusting chickenhawks to our west. We're not Oklahoma, Nebraska, or even Arky--states in which college sports are the only game in town (OKC Thunder notwithstanding). Not trying to diss anyone--just calling it as I see it.....

'70s weren't completely terrible. Lots of marquee victories. But I'd definitely agree on 1980's-early 2000's.

I don't know if Mizzou will ever outdraw the Cards on the east side of the state. It's basically an obsession over there. I would also agree with the KC area faithfully following the Chiefs, but I don't think they've been successful enough to really take away from the Mizzou-first fans in KC. Most Mizzou fans I know in KC (but not all) care more about the Tigers than the Chiefs.

I know this is getting kind of technical but it is my duty to clarify: Mizzou fans definitely are the majority on the Missouri side of the city. However, once you cross the border it's pretty heavily kU and k state. But considering Kansas City is 65-70% in Missouri, and that the kansas side is mostly ghettos and suburbs, the city is definitely a strong supporter of Mizzou, just as much as it is any of the other local schools.
In shorter terms, Mizzou moderately owns 65-70% of KC while the chickenhawks heavily own 30-35% of KC, which in the end evens out to about a 50/50 split between the two as stated.

Thanks for your clarification re:Kansas City, KCMO. I was raised in eastern Missouri and have lived in CoMo for the past 20 years, so I defer to your knowledge. I'm glad to hear that Mizzou football has a good following over there, and that we outnumber kU fans on the MO side of the border...

aTm fans are history buffs with little-man syndrome. Mizzou fans are gonna make the Ark-Mizzou rivalry pretty easy to hate.

I'm amazed this thread is still going! The Quin era was awful. Cocaine and co-eds aren't a good thing for a married coach.

Oh, we've hated Arkansas for a long time. We piss in the rivers knowing you'll drink that same water once it crosses into Arkansas. It's our way of poisoning y'all.
Hopefully, we can play y'all every year to continue a northern arse whooping that started a long time ago.

OK, I'll grant you there may be a valid cause for Missouri folks liking the Cardinals more than CFB, but the difference still remains however reasonable it may be.
Mizzou is always gonna be different than the rest of the SEC in that regard.
And for the love of God, did you just call me a bama fan? Meet the me behind the Sonic, punk!
