This is so overplayed. Petrino had back to back 10+ win seasons here recruiting in the low 20s. You need fits, not stars

Yeah, Mizzou had back to back 12 win and 11 win seasons too. I wouldn’t consider two good seasons = consistent success. It’s overplayed to a degree in which UGA fans anoint themselves national champs every year bc of their recruiting class ranking but not overrated in overall scale of success. Again, it’s what you consider “consistent.” You can’t name me a team in this conference the last 20 years that averaged 10 wins a year for a full recruiting period (4 years) that wasn’t pulling in top 10 classes.

You have to look at the coaching evaluations and not a bunch of nerds on 24/7. It is a bout making money and not honest talent evaluation because they only get info from random people.

Texas could average 5 wins a year for the next 10 years and still recruit in the top 10. Why is that? Because the state of Texas has almost 30 million residents and recruiting sites make a lot of money in large populated states.

100% agreed. The recruiting rankings are overblown, if they weren’t then UGA would have a ship by now. However, there’s something to be said that the only teams in the SEC consistently winning 10+ games every year are all averaging top 10 recruiting classes.

Add on to the fact that 19 of the 21 national champs this millennia all averaged top 10 classes with the exceptions being Auburn in 2010 with Cam Newton and Clemson in 2015 with Deshaun Watson.

They're the same kind of head coach.

No coordinating experience, it's all built on motivation and making the right hires.

True. Al.com had an article asking "Will Pittman's success lead to similar head coaching hires"?

And I was like "Maybe not, they have Ed O as the counter-example of when that type of hire goes awry."
