Yahoo: We could end up with 5 QBs taken in Round 1 of the NFL draft

We might be entering one of the wildest quarterback movement offseasons of our NFL lives in the coming months.
With all the forecastable changes at the position, there’s an argument to be made that half of the NFL’s teams might be seeking a “franchise quarterback.”
The high-water mark for quarterbacks drafted in Round 1 is six, which happened in the legendary 1983 class that included John Elway, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino. That class’ QB impact might never be repeated, even in an era when young talent at the position is as thrilling as it ever has been.
And matching the total of six doesn’t appear to be likely in this draft cycle. But we could end up with five in the first round — something that has happened twice (1999 and 2018) — and those five could populate the top of the draft like we’ve really seen only once in the modern era.
Trevor Lawrence is the overwhelming favorite to be the first pick to the Jaguars. BYU’s Zach Wilson and Ohio State’s Justin Fields are battling it out for QB2 honors; either could land with the owners of the No. 2 overall pick, the New York Jets. The loser of that battle might not have to wait too long to hear their name called.
North Dakota State’s Trey Lance will be one of the trickier studies in recent draft history.
And what about Alabama’s Mac Jones? He has committed to play in the Senior Bowl after the Heisman Trophy finalist led the Crimson Tide to a national title. Jones will be coached by the staff of the Panthers, who pick No. 8 overall and most certainly will be on the lookout for competition for Bridgewater. Could Mac Jones win over Matt Rhule and his staff in Mobile? The eighth pick feels lofty for the Bama QB, but then again so did the other Jones (Daniel) when the Giants took him sixth overall in 2019.
Was he a product of Bama’s monstrous offensive skill — or could he be a legitimate NFL passer?
Quarterbacks are more often overdrafted than any other position. This offseason’s expected game of QB musical chairs could leave a lot of teams in the draft — especially those picking high — diving for a place to sit come April if they don’t find the right veterans to take those spots first.

Kyle Trask has a chance, too. Could be 6.

Wouldn't mind seeing Trask or Jones in a Saints jersey

Mac Jones as a first round pick...

I’d take Jones over Trask any day of the week! I’m just not sure about Trask. His game really fell off towards the end of the year.
Also his knees are a concern!

Any GM that takes either Trask or Jones w/a 1st or 2nd rd pick should be fired on the spot for gross incompetence and misuse of draft capital.

I don’t know if he’s an NFL QB, but he has a chance at round 1.

I've been quietly thinking to myself there's no way Jones makes it out of the first round. I know he's not super athletic, and that seems to be the style of QB the NFL is looking for right now, but he's the very best pocket passer in the entire draft. Someone's going to take him in round one.

1. Fields
2. Jones
3. Lawrence
Haven't watched the other two

There are a lot of teams picking later in the first round (Washington, Bears, Colts, Steelers, Saints, Bucs) who will be looking for a long-term answer at QB and Lawrence, Fields, Wilson, and Lance will all be gone by the time those teams pick. I think there's a very strong possibility that Mac will go in the first round.

Fields is not better than Jones from the pocket. It's not even close. Fields may grow into being a great NFL QB, but he's a project imo. Imo, both he and Lawrence are greatly overrated. Not saying they aren't good and aren't capable, but they aren't nearly as good as people say they are.

TLaw
Wilson
Fields
Then a big drop after that.

He had wide open receivers everywhere at Bama, no tight windows, no need to read coverages pre or post snap, had all day to throw.
That ain't gonna be the case in the NFL, baw.

If Kevin Colbert, the Steelers GM, takes either Trask or Jones in one of the first two rounds, I will call for his firing every day on here and the MSB until he's gone.

Glad you're not a GM or talent evaluator.

Recently, SoG came along and posted a link that shared info about Jones' throws into tight windows. His stats were excellent. People keep repeating what you just posted and it's just not true. Yeah, he had receivers open at times, and others he threw receivers open and put the ball where only they could get it.
