There is no way that is correct. Vandy grads only averaging 61k a decade after graduating...bullshite

My wife fits the bill. She got her degree in sociology and never used it. It worked out great because she's in the perfect situation that she can be a mother to the kiddos and still bring in some good money as she doesn't have to work a normal 8-5.
And that's completely reasonable because you earn. I guess that factors into the data and distorts the averages.

Yep and it reflects in the rankings. A lot of folks I graduated with that are in their same hometowns and did nothing with their degree (which were meaningless majors like Art). All the people I know that are successful left the State after graduation.

I had a friend who was a big deal engr right out of school for Schlumberger in Malaysia. She was probably pulling in 100K right out of school. Now she's getting her masters and wants to work with kids.

Do you really need a college degree to sell real estate? Because according to like 5 people I know you do....
Why not just sell real estate for 4 years longer than everyone else and skip college, then have a huge book of business by the time your peers are just graduating.

I'm not from Mississippi, so it wasn't hard for me to leave it. But try telling a born and raised Mississippian that you need to leave to make real money. It is a foreign concept and I've quit trying.

From a knowledge perspective? Hell no you don't. But most companies won't hire someone without a degree these days. It's more or less to see if they're "driven and coachable".

Yikes on those salary numbers. I agree that they seem quite a bit lower than I would have thought. 40k even for somebody without a degree is fairly easy to reach if you work hard/are driven and network correctly.

$61K after 10 years sounds like a lot of wasted degrees weighing it down.
Lotta people going to college now days.

At 10 years, they would be an O4 (Major in the Army).
Base pay would be 84,600+
Then add another 3000 for subsistence.
Housing rate varies but that is the time most would be going to Ft. Leavenworth for Command General Staff college, so add 20,520 with dependents or 16,524 without dependents.
That's 104-108k per year with only 84k taxable with only the need for a bachelor's degree. Plus, pretty good benefits. Opportunities to attend top tier universities for free advanced degrees. Retire in 20 years and start a second career at about 42 years of age.
I understand it's not for everyone, but when you see lists like that it seems a pretty good alternative to a tight job market where ~40% of college grads are underemployed.

This is embarrassing across the board. I’m not a millionaire but I don’t think I would be happy with only making $61k after 10 years

Especially considering that Vandy is 50k+ per year. Terrible ROI

I would assume that if you gradudate from Vandy with a business degree and move to a City like NY, Chicago or Boston you'd be making over 61k your first year out.

This. But really, you kinda fail as a university graduate period after 10 years if you aren't making that. Unless you're a teacher, I guess.

Liberals ranking univerities There's about 200+ schools on that list that should sue the WSJ.
