Honestly surprised they rank Georgia that low and the two so close. I've always thought quite highly of UGA academically speaking. Not Vandy level but I would think somewhere in the mid 100s.

I'm surprised too. Especially considering we were ranked a Top 20 public institution this past year by Forbes and US News. And lol @ the Aubies thinking this vindicates their shite tier school.

UGA is always 3rd or 4th every ranking I have seen for the last 5 years or so (swap with aTm)

this ranking is pretty low for us; but I really don't care enough to whine about it

and I am seeing Ole Miss with better numbers on all of these lists

mid 100's is where we are more often than not

Auburn's reputation has shot up a bunch in the last decade; and that is true on any rankings of schools list you want to look at

The link the OP posted shows that UGA grads make $1K more per year after 10 years than Auburn. kudos.

Auburn has focused on improving the quality of our academics and it's paid off.

Alabama has focused on enrollment and numbers and the quality of their academics has suffered as a result.

10 years ago you almost always saw Alabama and Auburn ranked right to each other in SEC academic rankings, usually with Bama in the spot right above AU.

The rankings these days show what a huge difference 10 years make like you said, especially when you're focusing on two completely different goals,

Every school's 10 year salary looked like shite. I don't think anyone should be using that tidbit of information as a talking point, unless it's to question what exactly is happening to cause those numbers to look like a starting salary for some jobs.

I was providing counter-examples to the low ranking we received from the WSJ.

And I was pointing out how every single SEC school looked like shite, salary wise, so therefore we need to look into how that's calculated in order to better use that information.

edit: I find it hard to believe that UGA, Auburn, and Co. are averaging low 50's or high 40's ten years after graduating.

Find me a ranking of the universities as a whole where Mississippi State isn't last in the SEC academically and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

MSU and Ole Miss have the same entrance requirements.

I don't. That takes into account everything that is offered. At Auburn, if you went by just the Engineering and Veterinarian income, it would be much higher.

I see you took my academic argument and made it about only salaries.

I saw nowhere on your link which stated anything about academics with the Forbes link. It just states that that is their list for top 25 public colleges.

ETA as for your first link...

quote:

Public colleges and universities typically operate under the supervision of state governments and are funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state. As a result, these universities often offer discounted tuition to residents of their states. Public schools run the gamut from small liberal arts colleges to large research institutions. These are the highest-ranked public colleges and universities in the 2018 Best Colleges rankings, listed according to their ranking category.

I take that link to mean that these colleges offer the best tuition rates for in-state students. Nothing more, nothing less.

I really hope even the lower paying programs/jobs aren't paying so little that it drags down the high salaries from the other programs a school offers. I'd think 55-60K for most SEC schools would be a much more logical number.

This is 10 years we're talking about. That's crazy to me.

You must have just conveniently forgotten that you were in a thread discussing college rankings, and that these types of discussions generally tend to regard the academic standing of one vs. another.
