Agreed besides Clem'son. Kind of symbolic showing players ending with the program they started with during the NIL and Transfer age, even though Dabo just took his first few in.

Teams that finish 9-3 should be locks for the playoff. That means that Illinois, Alabama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina should have made it. Oh, did I forget Miami and BYU? They had better records than 9-3.

Any system that doesn’t have the 12 best teams will be a flawed system. Sorry to have to state the obvious.

College basketball - Flawed
College baseball - Flawed

All have auto bids for conference winners that cause “better”(more talented) teams to get left out of their playoffs for less talented teams.

If feels like the 12 team playoff is going to the nine Circles of Hell before it even gets started.

The problem isn’t with the playoff format, it’s just that the selection committee blew it this year. Even still that game last night was 100x more fun to watch than the Belk Bowl between two much worse teams. At least the game is meaningful. It’s December 21 and we have a huge day of football ahead. I love it.

You don’t. The SEC and a major media company is breaking away. We’re seeing it happen in real time.

Imagine if the NFL randomly decided to not follow their playoff selection criteria this year and tossed in the Jaguars and Saints to make sure small market teams were included. Oh and the Giants and Raiders got first round byes just because so that all regions get equal representation. That’s pretty much the college football playoff. Not to mention giving the #1 overall seed the hardest path.

I’m cool with conference champs getting an automatic bid, but not an automatic bye. If they did only one thing to improve it then this would be it.

And no Bama still wouldn’t deserve a spot. Can’t lose to Vandy and the worst OU team in a generation and expect a slot.

And in fairness, the system should also ignore rankings until Nov 1. Too many teams playing scrubs in Sept. October is the meat of the schedule and only then do you know what you have. And strength of schedule has to be a factor.

Bolded is the recurring theme. Problem with that stance is that an SMU or Boise is never going to have enough strength of schedule to get a spot in the playoffs. It is mathematically impossible unless you're in the SEC or B1G.

So....how do you fix it?

Get rid of conference championship games and replace them with conference play in games. every major conference gets ones. if the one and two teams in your conference make the playoff, then 3 and 4 play for a spot.
The SEC Championship Game had the highest viewership of any game this year; no way they are going to get rid of that game.

So....how do you fix it?

Win.

If you lose; don't lose ugly, especially to an unranked team.

No automatic byes for Conference Champions.

Seed teams based on the polls/rankings/metrics after the Conference Championship games.

In this case,

Boise St. & Arizona St. don't get automatic byes,

Clemson is the 12 seed.

Alabama is at home crying. (See first responses.)

For someone who has literally only seen the final score and admittedly did not watch a single play of the game why is Indiana getter dogged so much for a 10 point loss? Was the score not indicative of the actual game, I’m assuming?

The last 15 Indiana points were total junk time scores with the game completely out of hand down 24 with like 2 minutes left. The stadium was booing them for even trying.

Have you noticed that everyone is talking like adults but you? Why are you on here talking trash? I've said nothing to provoke anyone. You are just making yourself look like an idiot.

If you can’t get 4-6 top 25 matchups out of your regular season, schedule them nonconference. No excuses if you want to compete with the big boys for national titles. But the reality is they don’t want competition. They want auto bids and hope to hit a lucky streak when they get there. The Big 12 is already talking about less conference games since the committee clearly rewards shite teams like SMU for 1 less loss in an 8 game conference schedule. They have a point. It’s not like the committee ignored #10 vs #25 SOS. This was a gap of like 60 teams, showing there is literally no limit to how bad your schedule can be as long as your loss column is lower.

Pay attention to strength of schedule.

This is the most glaring deficiency. I'm not saying it as a
Bama fan and "we should have been in" but as a football fan.
Otherwise , it can take on kind that same feel as the
opening round of the NCAA basketball tournament.
I don't know that 12 is a perfect number either ; the more teams
in , the more teams (conferences) bitching left out.
It's obvious in selection , the committee was also geographically
spreading the wealth to some degree ------ but this first
one has just begun , so we'll see.

Gameday has been screwing teams over for years. None of their words have meaning to me. They just spew the ESPN line to get big names for bigger ratings, at least in their mind.

Gameday can go suck it

You're going to get blowouts in college football...there is no avoiding that

The only way to "fix it" is to expand the playoff, probably going to the 3-3-2-2-1 14 team playoff model

But guess what, Indiana gets in that too. 11-1 season should be rewarded, and there's nothing wrong if they get blown out. We don't know till we play it on the field. Playing > speculation

The only way to fix it is teams like fsu join real conferences and leave the cupcakes behind. There are only 10 teams not already in the SEC or Big10 who are worth a frick.

What the frick did morons who wanted a 12 team playoff think would happen. The playoff only needed to be 6 teams tops or stay the same. There is never 12 deserving teams ever and very rarely more than 6. This is only about money hiding behind some promise of a great playoff. These matchups will happen every year. Get used to it. Will get worse when they expand it to 16 teams.
