After reading the article I read many of the comments. 90% of the comments are from Bama fans justifying the "process". I can promise you if this was Auburn oversigning and not Bama the past few years, Bama fans would be pissed.

Bama fans the numbers don't lie. right now Bama is way over the 85. When you are over 85 Schollys current NC and have the top recruiting class you are going to have a target on you. DWI

Everyone else what Saban does is not against the rules, but IMHO pretty shitty for a handful of players. Until recruits understand that this may be them or Bama stops winning, DWI.

Where the frick is the article blasting Georgia and ATM for signing over 35 a piece?

UGA played this past fall with under 70 on scholarship and signed 33 this signing period with 10 early enrollees. The total of scholarship players will be at 83 when fall camp begins, provided all players qualify.

Having said that, I do not disagree with Oversigning at (when properly mantained with moderation. Not massive oversigning). It obviously works to keep the roster full at a consistent 85 scholarship players, so what is the problem. When a team mismanages a roster so bad that depth is an issue in December (precisely the time of a Championship game) then THAT is a problem. In order to win championships in the SEC, depth is the key; and depth only come with a consistently full roster.

I'm pretty sure someone knowledgeable about the program could break down their team's remaining players (2009-2012 classes) and show otherwise.

Here's something you don't often look at:

When you have a player entering his redshirt senior year and he's not a starter or someone who garners significant playing time, the likelihood of him being on the roster in the spring is close to zero. Both he and the school have fulfilled their obligations to each other over the course of four years. JUCOs are a bit different, as they usually only take a redshirt year due to injury.

Case in point: A&M has four scholarship players who were redshirt juniors on the 2012 roster.

-One graduated and was recognized on senior day

-One is a starter

-One was a JUCO who had to redshirt due to issues with his transcripts his junior year

-One had maybe played 5-6 total plays on special teams.

At least 2 of those 4 will not be back in the spring.

The funny thing is everyone overlooks the injustice of schollie limits.

Without scholarship limitations, you have people like Darrell Royal who would give scholarships to players who would never see the field just so they wouldn't sign with an opponent. He retired not long after the scholarship limitations were in place, similar to the walk-on and partial qualifier rule changes which drove Tom Osborne to retire.

Well LSU did enroll him, put him up in the dorm, and then told him to gtfo right before the semester started.

This. And Hinton actually mentions it in the article. When you subtract the 4 players recently arrested and the 4 would-be 5th year players not in the 2 deep, that leaves Bama at 2 over the 85 scholarship limit with 5 months before the start of fall practice. Not a big deal at all and no one will have to be "cut". In fact, we'll probably wind up giving scholarships to a couple walk-ons like we did last year.

I understand this. If Bama was sitting at 87 no big deal. The 95 number is a different story.

So this is what the great Bama coaches have in common (Saban and Bryant). They aren't cheaters. They are innovators!

I remember when EVERY bama fan on this board used to adamently argue the following with me:

1. Bama does not oversign
2. There is no competitive advantage gained
3. Saban has never "cut" a player to get to the 85 limit

Things sure have changed.

This should be unacceptable for a 3 million dollar a year Coach/CEO.

Might could have finished the game against Alabama if you had "oversigned." Instead your defense got tired and run the frick over.
