I’m hearing rumors that DVH might be retiring.. no source, just people responding to others mentioning his name as a possible replacement for Pierce.
Any legs to this rumor?

Good lord why?
Tennessee is across the board a superior entity. Baseball, Football, Basketball, softball, women’s basketball, etc. Better fans, better facilities, better boosters, better NIL.
Nothing about Arky is relevant.

Arkansas has named playing surfaces after NC winning coaches only.
DVH is no where close to meeting this criteria.

Would Vitello leave UT for Arky?
Why would he? He has no ties to Arkansas, and no family.
Arkansas baseball history isn’t any better than the Vols.
Vitello is in full control of the baseball program and gets whatever he wants. UT is renovating the stadium to exactly the way Vitello wants it which is costing $98 million.
Tennessee will pay Vitello as much as Arkansas would. In fact, I would expect Vitello to be the highest paid HC in the SEC once he gets his next extension and raise.
Everyone thinks he would jump at Arkansas because he coached there before. But everyone forgets that he was at TCU as an assistant under Jim Schlossnagel. When Schloss took the job at aTm? Vitello didn’t leave for TCU.
Vitello is already the best coach in Tennessee’s history already and he’s built a powerhouse without the facilities upgrade. Now they are upgrading the stadium and facilities that will be done before next season. With new stadium/renovations the recruiting will get easier for him. Stadium will also hold 9,000+ which of was at his request to be that big.
Everything he is doing at Tennessee he can do at Arkansas. Hell he didn’t even take the call from LSU when they was replacing Paul M.
One thing about Vitello is that he is loyal. Tennessee gave him his 1st chance when he was 37 years old and no one else would. Missouri literally interviewed him and hired a coach that is now at Jacksonville State. He’s not leaving what he has built at Tennessee. Vitello dad also loves Knoxville and that means a lot to him. He’s not going anywhere, and loves everything about Tennessee.
VITELLO IS THE BEST AND MOST POPULAR COACH ON CAMPUS AT UT!!

He would definitely take the call but will be great is when DVH takes Elder, wins it all, retires then Wes Johnson replaces him.

Tennessee fans sure are a delusional bunch.
In the big three sports, Arkansas has the superior program in basketball and baseball. While Tennessee has the historically better football program, Arkansas is still a top 25 all-time program.

Arky is a much better baseball school.
Vitello has more SEC Tournament Titles than Arkansas has in school history. Tennessee is one of the winningest baseball program since 2019 in the country.

Better facilities.
Tennessee is in the middle of $100 million in renovations/expansion that will be complete by the start of next season. Tennessee let Tony Vitello take the lead on the renovations to the stadium and is having a direct hand in on how it looks, and what he wants. Vitello is the reason why Tennessee switched to turf to begin with. He wanted it, and next thing you know they put it in. Tennessee will match anyone’s offer to make sure he never leaves Knoxville.
When it’s time for a contract extension, I would expect him to be the highest paid coach in the country.

So does the Vols. Now that Danny White is the AD, Tennessee isn’t afraid to spend whatever it takes to keep Vitello in Knoxville.

He isn’t leaving Tennessee. UT fans are an overly optimistic lot in their zealous support of their programs, but the baseball program is on the doorstep.

Pointing out the absurdity of the question isn’t fear. He tried to break it down very completely and simply for the idiots that believe it was a possibility.

don’t think Vitello or Schloss is going to Texas either. Both coaches are getting huge facilities upgrades and have stacked teams in place
Texas is gonna come looking and try to poach. However, I think it is going to be challenging as there baseball facilities are pretty poor. It is a complete and utter rebuild years in the making in terms of getting facilities even close. They have gotten lazy playing in the Big 12.
If Arkansas could compete money wise, they are far superior facilities and can get on track instantly.
Problem is, they aint competing money wise. So that begs the question....we have clearly seen where the money didnt matter and top coaching choices deny a school.
I know this, Vitello isnt leaving for Texas. No way that happens anytime soon.

Calling Tennessee a “powerhouse” is absolutely ridiculous.
This is why folks tend to agree that Tennessee fans are delusional.
Has he had good teams? Yes
Has he won a lot of games? Yes
Has he done well in Omaha? No
Winning championships makes you a powerhouse. Not winning games.

“Hey Tony, you want to come to Austin and recruit on easy street to a blue blood? We’ll double your salary and build you a new stadium.”
See how easy that is?
Now, maybe he really likes where he is and stays. But it ain’t going to be because of facilities.
