It’s pretty obvious he’s a lot better now than he was at LSU. From program management, to in game calls and game management, I think he learned a lot from his time in the NFL.

Now? Absolutely yes.

I don't really think he was much different in 2007 or 2008 at Bama than at LSU in 2004 though.

Some don't have a big airport anywhere near the school, but that hasn't really affected recruiting (Arkansas, State)

We do though, Walmart built one about 30 minutes away from campus. With cheap flights to pretty much all the major hubs.

Are we considering CSF a major program? If so then UO took George Horton in 2009 & Tenn took Dave Serrano in 2012. It still boggles my mind that Serrano failed so badly. I thought he was such a good hire.

Going back a little bit, Pat Murphy left Notre Dame to goto Arizona State. Staying with ASU, Tracy Smith, left Indiana for them. I probably wouldn't consider them a major program though.

Auburn pulled the giant bag of shite, Sunny Golloway from OU. That was massive at the time even if it didn't work out.

That is all I could come up with. I've said it before as well, big name coaches don't more around too much in baseball.

It doesn't happen often, curious to know if there is anyone I'm missing, this is slightly subjective of course.

2002 Pat McMahon left MS State to take the FL job. In 4 years as head coach at MSU he went to 3 super regionals and one World Series.

I would consider Cal State to be just because they have 4 National titles, feel like you almost have to all though they aren’t going to be able to match any Major P5 school in terms of money and facilities.

That’s right about Murphy, sucks for Arizona State that shite kind of hit the fan when he had them rolling. Galloway was a good hire. Horton shocked me, couldn’t believe he left for Oregon. Don’t remember what Oregon offered him to lure him away.

Dave was sort of out of his element at Tennessee. One of those things where it just wasn’t a fit him being from California but you never know. Van Horn is from California and has built perennial contenders at both Nebraska and Arkansas..

You have an airport but not a large one. That's what I was referencing. Almost every SEC town has an airport of some kind. EVen with flights being super cheap due to COVID, it would still cost me $600 or so to fly on Delta to Fayetteville from Nashville, connecting through Atlanta. (I'm using Nashville as an example because that's where I live). I wouldn't really call that cheap necessarily. And if a kid is going to play somewhere that would require his parents flying to see him play, distance probably isn't much of a factor, much less proximity to a major airport

Regardless, I don't think how big an airport is has any noticeable effect on recruiting. State is in the middle of nowhere MS and does just fine.

LSU is a college baseball blue blood! What is Tennessee? They have won what in baseball? LSU will hire who they want.

Uh, the parts of baton rouge that vitello will be able to afford to live in are very very nice. You are an idiot. Baron rouge has nice parts as well as rough parts like any other sizeable city metro area. Vitello will live very well here.

Baton Rouge is so bad that the nice parts are breaking off to form their own towns.

Tennessee isn’t going to commit enough in baseball to keep him. Literally the 2nd worst sec baseball stadium only because Mizzou has a solid 3A high school stadium. Tennessee has never cared about baseball and will not pay him more than the two programs mentioned

Not once did I say Tennessee has more money than A&M

I did say that Tennessee can match what A&M is willing to pay for a baseball coach.

I think Tennessee also knows they will never be able to consistently compete against Vanderbilt in baseball. It’s a no win situation for a UT A.D. If you create any kind of expectations that you might can compete consistently with Vanderbilt all you are doing is putting your own job at risk.

Texas A&M is known for their ability to afford perpetual mediocrity.

Historically, no, but that could be changing. You seen their football program? They need to stock up in other areas now. It's not 2000 anymore. I would argue Tennessee does care about baseball.

Knoxville is like Paris compared to Baton Rouge
Almost every place is like Paris compared to BR.

It's become a shitehole since the post-Katrina demographic apocalypse.

The area to the south and east of LSU is still OK to go.

Just don't venture north directly north of campus and you'll be fine........

Every place that took Katrina refugees have had crime increases, that was a stat I saw posted one time. And I know it’s true of Fayetteville.
