Would the SEC ever realistically consider extending an invitation to U of Houston?

They’ve got big money donors and are reasonably competitive in the big money sports. Houston is the 4th largest city in the country and can be reasonably considered more “southeastern” than…ahem…other places the league has expanded to.

I doubt it.
I don't think the SEC expands unless that expansion means more money for each of the teams already in the SEC.
I don't see anyone other than Notre Dame being a big enough add to make that the case. I think the SEC stays put for 15-20 years.

IDK, that's actually an interesting hypothetical, but my first thought is that Houston also has the Texans, Rockets, Astros, and a couple of soccer teams.
The league really seems to shy away from those direct markets (other than by proximity) except for maybe Nashville.
But selfishly, adding their basketball team would be great.

Big city, not a big program

Texas wouldn't allow it.

With all due respect to those type of schools, I hope the SEC never extends invitations to;
"city universities" ie the University of houston, the University of cincinnati, the University of Memphis, etc
Or
" directional schools" ie the University of Southern mississippi, University of Southwestern Louisiana , South Florida, North Texas, East Tennessee State, etc

Georgia Tech before anyone

Aggie and Texas covers the vast majority of Texas. Zero doubt in my mind we go after UNC and UVA

They should never receive an invitation to return to the Southeastern Conference, same goes with Tulane

they really only have 1 big donor and their fan support and dedication to athletics in general is sub par. TCU is a bigger catch and even they wouldnt bring any additional money to the conference.

Also fertitta’s kids went to LSU, ole miss, and USC. Tillman does it for local goodwill and a pet project. There is zero chance we take Houston

It’s an inner city/urban commuter school. Similar to LSU.

Hell no, thats borderline a commuter school, if we could extend into Texas I would love to grab SMU and their gazillion dollar donor base, ohh and kick aggy out.

The problem is, it would be hard to separate UNC from the other half-dozen or so Carolina schools
