Would it be surprising to see Texas Tech win the playoffs?

I've got a bit of a feeling about them.
(which probably means they get knocked out early

They spent a ton of money and they are getting results. Different world now. Time to get the trailer park fan bases to pay up or get used to losing.

They are certainly in the more favorable bracket to advance to the finals. Will be interesting to see how they respond along with the B1G teams since their schedules have all been so pathetically weak.

Yes I would consider it a surprise. Is it possible they do? Sure. I would still expect a B1G or SEC more though.
The last time the B12 won it all was 2005 Texas.

It would be surprising for no other reason than we just haven’t seen them

Bingo. West Texas is different. My father in laws estate still donates money to Tech every year and will until the balance is $0.

I don’t think this is their year, but I think it could be a start to something that is program changing.
It wouldn’t surprise me to see them become a consistent team you see winning the Big 12, and being a threat from here on out in the NIL era. They got loads of oil money and not much to spend it on out there, but pride, which goes hand in hand with Football, and Texas.

If Tech wins it all they would have the lowest blue chip ratio of a NC winner probably in recorded history.
I'd caution y'all when it comes to betting on that.
Though, they could get a lucky path. Their pod is the easier of the two to make it to the final.

Helps to have a relatively young booster sell his oil business for $4 billion & devote his $$ to the football program
Tech is going to be a power

Exactly. That areas bleeds money from the ground. And they have a loyalty that doesn’t get enough credit because everyone’s distracted with Aggies and their weirdness.

It's the intangibles I like about them- they have great team chemistry and coaching. Everyone is 100% bought in and rowing in the same direction. Absolutely no prima donnas or mercenaries.
And most of their leaders are guys that came up organically in the system- not newcomer studs. For instance, the LB that will prob be in the Heisman room transferred over a few years ago as a walk-on QB.
The QB signed there out of high school four years ago.
Their two running backs were 2nd and 3rd string (and one coming off an injury year) when their top RB went out before game 1.

Ducks have been the quiet ones.
Fear the Duck.

This is it right here. Most other places have serious pitfalls for the average newcomer to massive wealth: fancy hookers, pure cocaine, fine dining, exotic supercars, etc.
But in West Texas, the TT students negate the need for hookers, the drugs are dirt cheap, the nicest cuisine around is an Allsups burrito, and your only vehicle purchase is a Raptor F150.
That's like $100k, all in.
That leaves $3,999,900,000 for football.
Gentlemen... we are in serious trouble.

Yessir. I have family in Breckinridge & they’re all avid Tech supporters
ETA: should say from Breckinridge. Some have moved on, LOL

No, I think it's about $100,007.50
Oh wait, you DID include the hookers. Yeah, $100,000.

We don't have any data points to know how they would do against a team with top tier recruiting talent.
Indiana has passed the test this year, but I won't be shocked in the least if Bama or OU upsets IU or if Oregon clubs them in a rematch. They are still at a disadvantage in talent. Ohio State and Day have played down to their competition in season many times before.
Likewise. won't be shocked if Oregon spanks Tech pretty bad.

True, but Oregon did play at Texas Tech in 2023 and kicked a FG to go up 31-30 in the final minute. (they then intercepted a pass and ran it into end zone for final of 38-30.)
Tech was up 27-18 at beginning of 4th Qtr.
That Duck team finished 11-1. Tech didn't have nearly the team it has now, and finished the year 6-6.
I think Tech is going to run over Oregon.

Yeah, I don’t think they’ll be able to handle physicality of half of the teams.
They got lucky in their draw though.
