I think Leach will make Moo Sate respectable most years but year 1 was always going to be an uphill climb, and no spring only compounds that. I think you’re looking at a rough seasons 1 and 2 but by year 3 you’ll be in a bowl game.

It was a brilliant hire. Mike Leach has won and exceeded expectations wherever he's been. It's as simple as that. He's already the second best coach in the conference. He takes inferior talent and maximized their talent.

Think about it. He took Washington St and made them a top 20 team.

Washington.State.....

That program has absolutely no business being ranked. Mississippi St fans should be ecstatic about this hire.

We will beat Miss St. but I am expecting a game of it. MSU pushed LSU for a couple of quarters with a bad QB and bad offense..

If Leach had a full spring to teach I’d say Hill catches more passes since he is dangerous in the open field. Not that he won’t still do that but it seems to me this would be a good year to mix it up and rush for some yards. I have no idea what his plans are but those are my thoughts. What say you?

1. Mike Leach isn't going to mix it up, and I don't think we really want him to. This is kind of a freebie season anyway given no eligibility will be lost, and these young guys can learn how to play in this system.

2. Kylin is still going to get his touches. WSU's RB lead the team in receptions last year, and I think the shovel and screen concepts are probably some of the simplest to install.

Not even true. I gave you yards per carry by the RBs in his system from WSU. 6.4 and 6.9 by the top 2 RBs.

2020 is worst case scenario for Leach.

First he now has to play SEC defenses and now his schedule is full of them. He’s going to be a disaster.

Defensive coordinator isn't too happy with our defensive players right now, but some of that may be coachspeak. I do know our new strength coach was working them hard in the winter before the pandemic.

A 3-3-5 in the SEC won’t work, trust me. Typical Leach, score a lot but give up a lot. Explain to me wtf he is thinking hiring an “Up and coming DC” that runs a 3-3-5 in the SEC?

ETA: If there is one thing MSU always has are D-Linemen. Why on earth do you shave them down in a 3-3-5 defense? We have several corners good enough to do what we do best. Stop the run and put pressure on the QB and take our chances.

There is a difference between an actual successful running game and a RB carrying 10 times for 65 yards a game when the Defense is playing 3 down lineman due to the offense passing it 70 times a game.

If he is smart (which i think he is) he will get the ball in Hills hands as often as possible. But i bet it has as many receptions as rushes each game.

As others have stated Leach is stubborn and stuck in his way. He wants to prove that his Air Raid will work in the SEC.

And to point out that he had WSU ranked means nothing. The play in the PAC12. If his same WSU teams played in the SEC they would struggle to go bowling each year.

I remember Ole Miss linebackers running untouched through the massive gaps in the Texas Tech O Line during the Cotton Bowl. Ole Miss had 4 sacks, 2 picks, and a pick six.

It got two Joe Lee Dunn defenses to the SEC Championship game.

It doesn't matter if he is balanced. WSU backs averaged 6.4 and 6.9 yards per carry last year.

Hill is a legit RB. He is explosive. His yards after contact is damn great. What the Leach system does is allow a RB to take advantage of 1 on 1s.

LINK

I respectfully say Hill is way better suited for this system than Max.

Man, if it's going to be this bad for Leach and State, imagine how bad its going to be for the team that hired a career position coach

The room must be filled with kids...

I hated the week we played State under JLD. Those defenses hurt you. I mean banged you up. Blitzes out of no where. Players flying to the ball.

In case you didn't know. Here is JLD's bio. Look at where all of his defenses ranked LINK

Ole Miss finished sixth, first and 17th nationally in total defense during Dunn's stay.

Dunn served one year as defensive coordinator at Arkansas, where his Razorback unit finished first in the SEC and fifth nationally against the run. He helped lead Arkansas to the 1995 SEC Western Division title.

His first year at State, 39 sacks. The MSU defense was the worst until that 3-3-5 creating bastard showed up.

Except for the fact that talent would be different.

Leach did not bring WSU players to MSU.

Kylin Hill will get plenty of touches on the ball, but they will be via passes.

Leach doesn’t run the ball. Period. Backs are nothing more than extra receivers.
