Saban - this isn't college football

I don't disagree with CNS, but it is pretty funny that Bama had a big advantage over other programs for years by illegally paying players, and now that everyone can openly pay players, Saban quits and says things need to change.

Right message, wrong messenger.

You think our big advantage was our ability to pay players?

Why was Bama the only one allowed to do this?

Absolutely, a simple gullible fanbase that believes they can make a difference by supporting the middle and upper middle class buying players and supporting a machine that allowed Bama experience success they didn’t earn.

Crazy that the other 100+ teams were such pussies they let Alabama get away with this for so long. Almost ... not believable.

This is the modern day equivalent of “but Bear had 170 scholarships to use” nonsense.

No. Alabama was not the only school paying players pre 2020.

Yes. Nick Saban is the wrong guy to talk about how college football needs to go back to the old ways.

He did this with the hurry up too. He’s the best coach ever but is a little bitch when he doesn’t get preferential treatment. In essence he’s a microcosm of the Bama fan base as a whole

I don't have a problem with Saban being involved with being able to advocate for change and he has the platform to do it.
A strong voice is needed right now and he can definitely provide that and you have to respect what he says with no dog in the fight anymore.
It's not sustainable long term and it will start to impact other sports.

You have to get the transfer portal solved first but when you have teams pushing back against any transfer restrictions it's gonna be difficult. It's why the SEC and Big Ten need to come up with some guidelines they want to play by whether other conferences want to adapt to or not.

This is going to be difficult for you to understand and accept, but Bama got away with more than other programs. Most if not all major programs were doing some cheating, but Bama was able to do so out in the open without any media pressure or NCAA investigations. It was an unfair advantage they had while Nick was there, and everyone knew it. Bama fans are the only ones who struggle with that reality.

sec rant: "wahhh cfb isn't the same anymore, players are free agents, this sucks, I will stop watching!"

also sec rant: "Saban is a little bitch for speaking up and seeking solutions to what we have been bitching about for the 3 years."

Alabama got put on three years probation, was fined $44000, and had to vacate a bunch of wins because athletes sold their textbooks at the end of the semester. The NCAA hammered Alabama because they said because the athletes received the textbooks at no charge as part of their scholarship and then sold them, they were impermissible benefits.

Again, Alabama got three years of probation because athletes across 16 different sports sold their text books at the end of the semester.

But you were saying?
