Lane is a great coach albeit a headcase/unapologetic narcissist (which a lot of football coaches are to be fair)
Ole Miss always had the fan interest and deep pockets make themselves viable in the right era - now (NIl/portal) is that era. So Lane came at the perfect time for Ole Miss and they in turn gave him everything he wanted en route to being an elite program.
The fact that Lane stayed for 6 years in Oxford shows how much the fanbase and admin supported him - they never said no to him.

He didn't.
That would go to Vaught. Who had not only a higher finish in the polls, but he did it multiple times.
From 1958 until 1963 the lowest Ole Miss finished in the polls was 11th. They finished 2nd in the AP twice, 3rd once along with a 5th and a 7th.
In those 6 years they had a total of 6 losses and 2 undefeated seasons (1 with a tie).
They had 4 bowl wins and 2 losses in that time and won the SEC 3 times.

Johnny Vaught won 6 SEC championships and also had the most successful six year run in Ole Miss history. Lane won nothing and bailed on a playoff team

He might’ve took but didn’t finish the job. He might’ve wanted to finish but let’s be real, if a coach for LSU took your team to the playoffs and wanted to leave for Bama or Ohio state, you would say “go frick yourself” as well. Also he likes to talk about “oh well it’s easier to recruit at lsu” but that didn’t ever stop Hugh who was paying players to get 5 stars. Funny how’s he never said “maybe I should’ve worked harder”

For the record I never said he was Ole Miss' best coach or brought them through the best six years in their history.

I do agree if a coach at LSU was leaving, but said they wante to finish the year I would say the same things: "GFY". But to say he did not coach them to (not in) the playoffs is dishonest.

I said “he might’ve took but didn’t finish.” Sure he led but when it comes to the actual playoffs nothing, now Charlie Weis absolutely. Pretty much leading up to the egg bowl week you could cut his season off at.

Resorting to insults because you have no come back, in your words you said Lane did not coach in the playoffs but Wies did and now I am a swamp rat.
I actually laughed when I read this because it just shows that you are still butt hurt and you know this is all coming crashing down.
And by stepping stone programs, name one LSU coach in the last 50 years that left LSU for a better college program. (Saban cannot be your answer because he went to the pros and wanted to come back but LSU had just won the national chamiponship and could not fire the coach.)

This is an easy one but LSU fans won't like the answer:
Lane without Pete: Solid 23-13, some of the worst defenses in college football, lots of portal fits not quite working out, locker room issues,
Lane with Pete: 32-5, defense much improved, portal fits working out much better, way fewer locker room issues.

This cannot be a serious question. Come on, it was Bama; he had them rolling and as an LSU fan it sucked watching him beat the shite out of LSU every year.
But, once again if you think Saban did not want to come back you are lying to yourself. He has stated it, but no one can blame him for going to and doing what he did at Bama
