Will Texas take Alabama’s place now?

I figure they’re primed to fill the void left by Alabama without Saban. They’ll be the main competition to Georgia now. They have the money and power to exert influence.
With Texas unlimited resources and new SEC recruiting pipelines I expect Alabama to take a backseat and the REC lose its grip on the conference.
Expect SEC office to move to Houston in a few years and SEC championship to be held in Jerry World when the contract is up in Atlanta.

Texas could hardly ever win the Big 12. So probably not.

Let’s play at least one conference game before we start crowning teams.

Probably not. We don’t care as much about college football as other programs.

No but it is a great time for them and Oklahoma to come into the conference. Slightly down as a whole this year with a lot of parity and Saban leaving.
I think the bigger wakeup call for them will be the sheer number of tough games they have to play.

Wow. 3 excellent responses in a row. It’s like …. Post count is dropping now that football season is over, and the quality of the discussion is going up …. (Knock on wood)

I agree with this perspective. Everything is hypothetical until we actually play the games.

Kirby has already demonstrated the relentless level of work for staying power. Everyone else is a wait and see

No. For the simple reason Aggie won’t dickride Texas.
The team, that is. They do plenty of dickriding in the state, of course.

They couldn’t beat huskies two years in a row like the Ducks in the recent era where it’s all about $ , hoes and lambos. They have a ways to go. Georgia seems like they are taking Bamas spot.

As much as I'd like what you propose to be true, I don't think any coach/program can replicate what Saban/Bama did.
Of course I expect the Longhorns to be in the playoffs most years, but with the new CFB landscape the era of dynasties are over I'm afraid. Overall I think that's more of a good thing for CFB than bad.
Edit- as much as it pains me to say this, ZeroU has a better chance at a small dynasty run than we do. They may not have the sort of money we do, but aggy comes close and look what thats done for them, lol. The dirt burglars program exists to support the school, in other words a football factory. Then you factor in their geography which allows them access to the fertile recruiting grounds of the DFW metroplex (North Texas) as well as cherry picking from Missouri, Arkansas, little bit of Louisiana and somehow they have a California pipeline as well. Even though nearby OKC has pro basketball, the gooners are the premier football team in their state. Like Michigan and a few other state schools, Texas is trying to be more like Stanford of the Southwest than a football factory like OU, Bama, LSU etc. So yeah, I don't like it either, but it's reality.

this. we care about sports insofar as they can be a financial vehicle. it's not our identity like it is for programs in poor states like oklahoma, alabama, louisiana. they live and breathe football and derive meaning from winning.
