He can throw tons of money at guys but few coaches are lining up to go against Bama, Auburn, and LSU year in year out.

The SEC West is such a murderer's row than people would rather find easier jobs elsewhere.

What gives you any indication that the "nationwide" coaching search will do anything but go up I45?

So, with the amounts they are talking about I'd expect to see names like Peterson, Fisher, etc... Saban-like money I doubt we get any of them, but I guess they are going to try.

1) You don't know until you try.
2) But it's not happening.

The Longdongs offered Saban more money than A&M can. He wants natties that TAMU can't deliver before he retires. I don't see him coaching after 3-5 more years. Wishful thinking?

Jimbo was interested in LSU before Les wasn't fired. But upon further review he came to his senses! ACC is P5 and offers a stage for the big dance. SEC West is the hardest division (P5++++) to win for natty playoffs! He ain't leaving voluntarily!

Peterson same same. Getting damn good money coaching in one of the weakest P5 conference. If you win it, you're in it. Why go SEC West!?

Three choices, non P5 HC, lower echelon P5 HC, or promising assistant,

Aggies go for a guy who can develop defense. Wilson is a RB coach, Fedora is offense minded as is Gundy. My guess is that if Bama's defense stuffs everyone this year, Steele goes heavily into consideration.

This obsession some of you rantards have with big name coaches leaving big time programs to come and coach in the SEC is getting old. The last guy to do this was Chizik who came from Iowa State to Auburn with a 5-19 record. Meyer came from Utah before Utah was a P5 program. Saban had been with the NFL before going to Alabama. Petrino had been with the Falcons before going to Arkansas.

I agree will try and come up short. The big problem will be finding someone who isn't going to treat it like retirement - like Chavis

Sumlin wasn't on that level. What has changed? Not calling you out. Serious question

Good question-
The Sumlin hire was an emotional hire. He had a good record at a Texas school, P5 school was his next move and he had the benefit of it being a good hire socially.
Much the same as Tom Herman was at Texas. They both know Texas for recruiting purposes, etc. the jury is out on Herman at Texas.
Look at pre- Saban hires at Alabama. A couple of former Bama players and a former Bryant player at another school ( which did work out for them short term). Emotional hires all.
I just think A&M is going to go all in with a Sumlin replacement. Who ever the biggest name is that they can find, that will be their target. And that person will get all the backing they want to be successful.
Just my prediction.
