The truth? It was hyperbole. They all may be on NFL rosters, but they aren't anywhere close to being NFL ready other than Yeldon.

Talent does basically mean ability. They have the ability to be better,to develop and become better.
He did not say they were better now.

And I can counter with Auburn's D giving up a country mile and tons of points in their last 3 games.

But AU is not dependent on their D carrying them this year (same as last year). If they are any better than last year and with the Offense improvements, AU will not need "luck" to win big this year.

The reason AU went home empty last year was the defense. They scored enough to win but could not hold a big lead and a lead with a minute to go.
The defense got ripped in the fourth quarter vs UGA and really you should not have won that game.
They gave up a mile in the Alabama game and yes,you won on the return but Alabama moved the ball and were about 5 yards from beating you with that kick.

The reason I don't think your defense improves is because you lost your best players on defense.

Dee Ford was our best player.

Chris Davis, god love him, wasn't even close to being our best player on defense.

Gabe Wright returns. Carl Lawson returns. Elijah Daniel returns. Montravious Adams returns. Cass McKinzy returns. Kris Frost returns. Robenson Therezie returns. Josh Holsey returns. Add to that newcomers 4-star DE Andrew Williams, 4-star DT Dontavius Russell, 4-star JUCO DE Davonte Lambert, 4-star JUCO safety Derrick Moncrief, and 5-star LB Tre Williams?

Yeah, I see an improved AU defense in 2014.

The offense was good. You did not stop it and neither did we. Pay attention to the actual games bro.

You can go back all the way to his Arkansas days. We know how to limit Gus's offense. Speed everywhere. Blitz the ends, drop back LB's, play man coverage, and bring in a hard hitting nickel back for extra run support. Works 90% of the time for John Chavis

Sometimes only 10% is effective enough.

In the history of football, has there ever been an offense that couldn't be, and wasn't stopped?

No, at some point something will change to slow it down. It could be this year or it could be 5 years from now, but I feel comfortable thinking there is nobody out there close to that point. Again, throw in the fact that Gus does not run the exact Offense every year and it will prolong the agony for Defensive Coordinators.

I think that any defensive coordinator with some film and an afternoon to kill could 'figure out' the Auburn offense. It's nothing super special (I think only a handful plays were ran against Arkansas) but everyone on the offense does their job exactly the way that it is drawn up. Something as simple as a WR making a block or not could mean a 5 yard loss or a huge run. So I think it's foolish to think that the opposing teams can't figure it out, especially with as much film as they have from GM. IMHO the offense works like any machine, simplicity is better.

I think AU's offensive success has more to do with their OL's success than any schematic difference. The scheme is pretty simple. FSU had success when they were able to win up front and create negative plays on early downs.

Actually, I went back and checked. We should have and did win that game.

I agree. It's not the offense..it's the players running it. Who remembers the Green Bay Packers of the Lombardi era? Everybody in the stadium knew that the sweep was coming, but they couldn't stop it.

I like to think that playing Gus twice had a little to do with that #51 ranking in 2010.

I'm sure opposing defenses will at least play harder getting paid before the game.

Auburn ran a very odd offense last year. Defense were shell-shocked but they will be better prepaid this year.

The first few defenses may have been shell-shocked by what they were doing but after the LSU game when Gus turned Marshall loose no one can use that excuse. Especially not the top rush defenses in the SEC and nation which Auburn played at the end in of the season. Certainly not when you're running the same plays over and over. There is a better case that teams are figuring out Saban's defense.

This is nothing more than another excuse like the "Its a HS offense that won't work in the SEC" of last year. Then when no one "figures" it out next year the excuse will be Auburn will suck because Marshall left and he was the whole offense and only reason Gus won. Its a never ending cycle to make everyone else feel better during the off season.
