Will oversigning be Nick Saban's biggest contribution to college football?

I don't mean this in a derogatory way at all. I think in 15-20 years everyone will do it and scholarships will be seen as a one year renewable thing that you have to work for and earn. I don't think people in the future will see that as a negative at all.

It would be, however, a fundamental change in attitude in college sports that would change things for better or for worse forever. I'm not sure if Saban was necessarily the first coach to do this, but he certainly has popularized it and other schools have picked up on it as a response to him (LSU included). I see this as the beginning of a domino effect on the rest of college football and eventually the rest of college sports period.

I don't think so. He isn't the worst oversigner he just gets more attention because he does it with 4 and 5 stars instead of 2 and 3 stars.

They're already this. And he's signed 9 less than Chiz has over the last 3 yrs.

A lot of people don't look at it this way though. A lot of programs refuse to oversign.

Doesn't matter how it's looked at though. That's the way it is. People not looking at it like that doesn't change it

That's great. It also has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

A lot of schools also sign 25 and enroll all of them. a lot of sec schools sign 25+ and enroll less than that. There also seems to be a bunch of attrition on the players own behalf.

Yes, we did. We didn't go over the 25 per class limit, but we're definitely over the 85 total scholarship limit.

Why? There are far worse offenders (if you even want to call it an "offense").

No, you said he "made it popular". Again, he wasn't the first to do it and has only signed more than 28 once. Tommy Tuberville and Houston Nutt have been doing it for years. Hell, the "28 rule" was put in place because of Nutt signing 38 in one class.

Two different types of oversignings, at least tuberville vs saban

But I don't really care

Drac is right it may change the game or maybe rules will be
made to correct a situation I don't think needs to be. But other coaches are dong it now and who can blame them which univ used to winning is going to put up with 8-5 seasons. There is too much money at stake to not have the best players available on the field. FTR he did this at LSU as well. I wish they would up the scholarship limit I mean who thinks they can't afford it now. CFB is a beast.

they will have to pass some legislation in the ncaa because of all the hate on it.
i don't think it's that bad a thing, how the hell are you supposed to know if an 18 yr old kid will be a productive member of the team and society or turn into some of the ego maniacal party animals that certain ones do.
