Rae Carruth got a serious trial and sentence. Maybe not enough time, but definitely more than a slap on the wrist
Big time athletes have big time money which gets them big time lawyers, so it’s not too surprising they get lighter sentences. Mike Tyson also get a relatively soft sentence, though not as soft as Brock Turner. I don’t know too much about Turner, but if he was at Stanford I think it’s safe to assume his family was wealthy.

I sat on a jury the other day and was reminded that assault is any act that creates apprehension of imminent harm. If that is the case most of the NFL stuff qualifies as assault.
I read up on this last night while the board was blowing up and the whole area of violence in sports revolves around the idea of "presumed consent". When you agree to play a physical sport you accept risk of injury and the very strong chance that tempers will occasionally flare and there will be incidents and contact beyond what the rules allow. So you're presumed to consent to shoving and maybe a punch thrown here and there. It's a big stretch to presume consent to getting your helmet ripped off and your head battered with it. I doubt if he's charged but he's lucky the QB is laughing it off. If he wanted charges pressed he could probably get them.

Shiner,
Agreed, As you point out presumed consent only goes so far. As football player what Miles did breaks the code; however, to press charges we have to establish where presumed consent no longer applies and who was the aggressor. I believe, based on football code and legally, when the helmet came off presumed consent evaporates. After that point who closed with whom? Who attacked who first? etc... Now I have only seen what has been posted...not all.
That would also open up Pouncey as well to criminal charges, I don't think repeatedly kicking a defenseless player in the head who was held down should be overlooked by the league. Opening this up to criminal legal scrutiny is not something the NFL is going to want right now.

Does he not have a right to defend himself after getting kicked in the nuts and then getting bull rushed.. He felt threatened and by stand your ground laws he could have shot him or beat him with a helmet. Especially considering 3 guys were after him.
Let's stop pretending Rudolph is a victim. He provoked everything that was brought upon him.

Rudolph started the fight.
I can't say he started the fight, but he clearly tried to rip Garrett's helmet off before Garrett ripped his off.

I'm no OT lawyer but a lot of states have mutual combat laws. I know Louisiana does. If two people willingly choose to engage in fisticuffs either explicitly or implicitly by the nature of activities are involved in, then no crime has been committed as far as the State is concerned. Now of course you might be able to be charged with public disturbance or other laws but that's only when you are on public property but I think the mutual combat statutes protect boxing, UFC, football and other organized sports activities.

If it happened it Pitt it might have been a possibility.
But since Rudolph wasn’t actually hurt, it won’t happen.
Garrett is definitely a bitch though and he’s going to have a target on his back moving forward.

Watch the entire play, Garrett clearly is going over the line illiciting a reaction from Rudolph.
But I agree that Rudolph should pick up a suspension as well.

This is one big over reaction IMO,
Potential to harm and actually harm are two different things. He wasn’t even hurt, he could have been hurt but he wasn’t. Let’s say, he swings helmet and falls down and completely whiffs, wouldn’t even talk about it.
Same reaction?
How many baseball players charge mound and throw helmets at pitchers faces, bring their bats with them, kick with metal spikes....
This is all being over played - anti football bs
I know football helmets and players are different but suspending him for the year is max he gets

Will Myles Garrett face criminal charges?
Why do you care, honestly? Lol
I don't get it. It was an event that happened in an NFL game. Why are you so emotionally invested in Myles Garrett, one way or the other to actually care lol?

Might I propose a team vote? Worked well in our conference.

This does not allow one of the parties to pick up a weapon and use it.

If the liberal media goes against Myles, He's toast.
