I know lsu beat us like a drum last year, but if you watch the game closely, it had little to do with the defense having figured AUs offense out.

I think people forget that Gus adapts his offense to whatever defensive adjustments others team make year to year.

Just play like UA did in the first half of the 2010 iron bowl.

Not everyone is going to be able to steal the signals.

Nah. That's not the way it works.

Teams will always struggle with Gus' offense. There's simply no way to effectively cover every option on every play.
+1
It's not hard to figure out - just gotta get the young knuckle heads on defense to stay disciplined and execute their assignments. AND field an offense that keep AU's offense sitting on the bench.

another thing is to not be so aggressive getting up field off the snap. we did a great job, especially with jff in this regard. you almost have to just hold your position and watch the qb/rb exchange and then react accordingly instead of just trying to get in the backfield as fast as you can

Yep - Be disciplined, hold your position and then react. All that motion and movement makes a defense bite too early and they over pursue.

i can see how hard that is for youngsters to do that. i mean all through their high school career most have just been able to bum rush the o line and get to the qb with relative ease. then all of a sudden they have to learn to NOT do that for an offense like auburn.

A lot of great defensive minds in here. I wonder why other teams haven't implemented such techniques.

Really there's not much to figure out. It's pretty much like defending any option offense: you have to match up and everyone on the defense must do their job. I mean Georgia's shitty defense last season had Auburn beat at home and blew it with the immaculate reception that should been batted down by anyone in that position with shite for sense.

its not that hard to figure out auburns offense in terms of x's and o's. its a pretty light playbook and formation scheme compared to other offenses. its the fact that your offense makes the defenses do things counter to what they've been taught their whole life, especially on the d line. I'm not knocking your offense, i actually like it and like watching it and it works. kudos

I love Auburns confidence. I missed it for some strange reason.

Georgia had it figured out to the tune of 566 yards and 43 points.

I think too much credit goes to the scheme and not enough to the players. Robinson at LT, Mason at RB, Prosch at FB, and Marshall at QB. Kozan was also extremely effective. If that power play on the left side doesn't work so well, teams aren't trying to adjust to stop it and the fakes in the backfield become much less effective. Gus is very good at calling plays, but that offense essentially just replaces the play action pass with the play action outside run. Every offense needs to have a strength to build everything else off. Last year, it was running Mason left behind Prosch.

Auburn doesn't run the read option nearly as much as they look, at least according to Gus himself. What they do is show the read option on nearly every play. The defense doesn't know if its going to be a half back dive, a QB keeper, or even an honest to goodness read option. What gives Auburn the advantage is that they know before the play where the ball is going and who is going to have it.

You have to be smart on defense to slow it down, but it can be done. However, Auburn's attack is particularly hard to solve because Gus is very smart about setting up plays in advance and waiting for the other team to give Auburn the match up he wants for a big play.

Yes, but right when you figure out how to stop us from running for 500 ypg Gus will have Nick slinging it all over to Sammie and Duke. The master is always one step ahead.

The officials didn't have it figured out last year. That was a big thing. AU got away with a lot of things that should have been called penalties, but the officials were discombobulated. They also sped up getting the ball in play for the HUNH. That's a no no. It should be methodical, the same for every Offense. They're SUPPOSED to have all that worked out for this upcoming season.
