For every Saban they've had a Shula.

Even Shula had a 10 win season.

As a Kentucky fan you should be familiar with Bill Curry. He was one game away from playing for a national championship at Alabama.

He went 7-5, 9-3, and 10-2 in three seasons at Alabama.

He couldn’t handle the pressure and bolted to Kentucky. In seven seasons at Kentucky he had ZERO winning seasons. In six of those seasons he had 4 or less wins, including a 1-10 season.

He was the exact same coach. Yet he had vastly different levels of success. Why do you think that was?

Richt won 11 games 5 times at Georgia
and 13 once. He had four consecutive 10-win seasons.
But he also had four years more than Franklin to do it.

Jimmy Sexton

It always stuns me when a coach is on the cusp of disappointment (as was Franklin a few years back). The administration and sports analysts knew everything they needed to know about him - didn't win against ranked opponents, the big game; hadn't won conference title, etc. There was talk of r letting him go.

Yet here comes Jimmy to say, other programs are interested in him. Result - renegotiated contract.

Are you saying a good coach will be forced from a lesser school to take a job at a traditionally big school? I dont think vandys coach is going anywhere. If mizzous coach goes anywhere he is a dumbass. Doesn't mean it won't happen but making 6-10 mill a year vs making 9-12 isn't that crazy different unless you have an insanely outlandish lifestyle or plan on retiring soon.

Nick Saban asked the same questions on GameDay.

Why was Franklin fired a half year after winning 2 playoff games and a pretty good 11 year record at Penn State, which followed a good record at Vanderbilt

Because big-time college football is batshite crazy.

That’s what makes it great ….and ridiculous.

Because the dirt is just magic I guess.

The same reason Kentucky fans just expect to win with kids from NYC, Jersey, and such during basketball season.

Good Gawd.

Yeah. Richt was a great coach.
He was never going to be ranked above Miami or OhioSt in 2002 even if he had gone undefeated.

In 2012 he was very close again to a natty.
Put Richt in a playoff scenario in 2002 and 2012 who knows what happens.

Franklin isnt the coach Richt is.
Never said he was.
But Franklin is better than any coach UF has ever had not named Spurrier or Meyer.
He'd be top 5 at uga if he ever coached there.

I don’t watch Gameday so I didn’t see it but it’s a valid question imo.

I think rhule is a penn state guy and I think nebraska would hire anyone if it meant they were good. I dont think those teams are held back by anything the big 10 is doing. Their truly are a handful of good year after year coaches in the world and I think penn state just fired one of them

Saban was pretty harsh on the Penn St admins. Called it an unfair firing among other things.

The timing was weird the way they fired him. They could have waited. PSU didn’t have to be in a hurry. Unless they have their eye on somebody and didn’t want Franklin to win his way off the hot seat. If it was Cignetti, they quashed that pretty quickly with the extension.

Ok but Penn State literally just had their best season in his tenure under him last year.

Your argument makes zero sense.

Stunning. Pro Coach doesn't like another Pro Coach getting fired - while not needing that coaches job.

A mystery wrapped in an enigma.

Next - we'll have rules consultants getting the call wrong in replay - while still defending the officials on the field.
