If OU was going to make a change and go after a current SEC Head Coach, I think they would call Elko

And in return A&M would pay Elko more money than is in the entire state of Oklahoma.

the logical answer here is Elko.

Oklahoma doesn't have the pockets to snag Elko away.

Wasn't that your plan to keep your baseball coach too?

Texas has more money than we do.

OU doesn't.

Let me know if you need me to break anything else down for you.

I agree if A&M is ready to offer another 10 year contract for $100 million. Either way, I think y'all missed my point. I was trying to say that I don't think Beamer would be OU's target if they went after a current SEC Head Coach, but I don't think they would go that route either way.

Glenn Schuman is the coach I think they will go after.

Neither did Venables.

OU rolled the dice big time on letting a proven DC take the reins in his first head coaching job ever and it has not worked out.

I don't know how old you are or how familiar you are with OU history...

But all their great coaches had been lifetime assistants and first time head coaches. Wilkinson, Switzer, Stoops, and several other moderately successful coaches... Gibbs, Fairbanks, Mackenzie...

Since WWII they have hired two coaches who were already head coaches. Jim Tatum and Howard Schnellenberger... And both of those were there only one year.

Venables had a very similar resume to Bob Stoops when OU hired him. And the same AD hired both of them.

OU's entire problem revolves around 1) screwing up the O line recruiting/portal... 2) Not hanging on to Gabriel and expecting Jackson Arnold to be a suitable replacement and 3) they have injuries at receiver and in the secondary where there has been a huge drop off between the first team guys and the guys who came in to take their place.

The O line situation may be fatal... it is that bad.

Of those three things

I'll agree with this. There is nothing about Beamer's resume that says he's a top-tier coach worthy of the kind of money it would take to lure him away from a top program. Besides, the only coach in the league right now that's proven themselves to be truly elite is Kirby.

Beamer is too frat boy for Oklahoma. They need a Baw in charge there.

Brent will get another year. Hire a stud OC and Oklahoma can get right back on track.
If he doesn't then he is gone.

You are a fricking idiot - OU is already paying 3/4 of that to Venables. Do you really think another 2.5 mil a year is not doable?

It is not the 2.5 million a year that will make yall squirm, its the $50 million buyout that would be demanded. It makes mistakes much more costly.

Even us Aggies has to tighten some belts after we paid off Jimbo, a million here a million there turns into real money.

Why hire Beamer when Napier is right there for the poaching?
