Every SEC game is a rivalry game Maybe your team has the same mentality as you and that explains why your school hasn’t had any success in this league???

the answer to your question OP is that they’re on a 8 game losing streak with THEIR current rival and they can’t take it so their desperate to find someone they are winning against currently

academics are surely important, as they are the reason colleges exist.
I just don't understand the reasoning behind bringing academics up when talking about a football game. If that's your fallback, you must understand how that makes you appeal to others, right?

so many similarities:
- both compete for recruits in the Houston area
- both have immortalized 1950s icons with memorials/statues - Billy Cannon (LSU), Lassie (A&M)
- we went after your head coach, you went after our defensive coordinator
- both have famous cheer/dance organizations - Golden Girls (LSU), Yell Boys (A&M)
- both have strong ties to the oil & gas industry
- both have bars in an area called Northgate
- both have stadiums with recognizable names - Tiger (LSU, named after a civil war battalion called the Fightin' Louisiana Tigers), Kyle (A&M, named after the South Park character)
In sum, I think a rivalry makes sense.
