Why is LSU pushing for A&M to be their rival so badly?

They asked to ditch Arkansas for A&M once A&M joined.

Their head coach is calling it a rivalry. Here is a recent quote from O.
quote:

I think this is a rivalry game, you can throw out all the rankings, you can throw out all the point spreads, it's going to be about us taking care of the football.

They handed these out a few years back.

This is how they celebrated beating an average A&M team.

Just let it build naturally. Maybe one day we'll accept you as a rival.

Oh check it out- Another A&M started thread about how LSU cares about A&M.

23 years, boy.

You're right though. It's not a rivalry game. Like Jimbo Fisher said yesterday "We have to beat them for it to become a real rivalry"

Are we? We have tu, TCU, TTU, Baylor, Arkansas, South Carolina, and now LSU all as rivals or trying to be rivals.

Should probably just take it since you played second fiddle to OU for ~100 years.

It's sad, so desperate for a rivalry with us but it's hard to respect someone that never beats you

Ouch, that kind of ends all discussion I'd say

Keep going. You almost named all of your opponents as your "rival"

Its okay for rivals to have other rivals. Its not a monogamous relationship. Is UT jealous of Auburn? Is Georgia jealous of Bama?

As a lifelong LSU fan, trust me Texas AM is not considered a rival.

Tell that to your administration, marketing, and head coach.

Most programs have a main rival. Texas has OU. LSU and A&M both need one so just accept each other. Maybe try and win one this century?

Do they? I would say just as many have multiple or none at all.

I feel like it's more from the conference and networks determining rivalries now. It seems like every game now the commentators are talking about it as a rivalry. I preferred LSU playing Ark in rivalry because they play for the Boot and it was always a toss up on how the game would play out no matter how the teams were ranked. Then they throw in A&M and the conference and networks are like "hey they share a border too, let's make that the new rivalry." If there's no history of a trophy/game name then it's not a rivalry.

ex: Egg Bowl, Battle of the Golden Boot, Iron Bowl, etc.

Just my opinion.

So let me get this straight, Texas A&M leaves the big twelve and ditches playing their “rival” program (and better program) and now they’re in here complaining that someone they play every year thinks of them as a rival. Also this question is pointless because if you ask anyone that grew up before the 90’s they’ll say you’re a rival, and anyone born in the 90’s didn’t watch LSU play A&M for roughly 20 years so they feel differently.

Fun fact for making it through that, whether born before the 90’s or after, you likely were never around to see A&M win a national championship. Wild stuff.

Lsu will never be a rival even after we start whipping them under Jimbo. We have nothing in common with them. Broke and poor academics just doesn’t pair well with the A&M brand. Decent people though I guess. The world needs ditch diggers too

It’s not a rivalry when only one side wins.
