We don't bitch about playing FL, we bitch about Bama playing Sewanee.

I personally would just like a little variety. I don't want LSU to play the hardest schedule every year, and sit back and let teams like Bama and UGA profit off their cupcake schedule's. If Bama had LSU's schedule, and TAMU had Bama's, Bama would not have even made it to Atlanta last year. Bama fans, you can't tell me you would trade it y'alls championships for a tougher schedule. Y'all can deflect, and scream "whiner!!" all you want, but it is what it is

It's just another extension of their ongoing Bama butthurt.
bama butthurt = fearing UF. makes sense.

The OP has a point. LSU fans complain about it each and every year. Legitimate question.
some do complain about it, yes. but the complaint is more directed toward scheduling than UF.
i would be very upset if we no longer played UF. i don't give a shite what bama's or auburn's or whoever else's schedules are.

We are pussy cats for a reason. This goes along with our fan base wanting to play ATM instead of Arkansas on Thanksgiving weekend. ATM would be a much easier win than Arkansas most years. Same thing with Florida, we get a showcase game out of it and another rival but our fan base would rather have Vandy as the permanent.

Skipped 7 pages cause I dont feel like reading them.
Yes... They did. Maybe not.exactly, but they were probably the biggest program that was against the permanent opponents. Or at least against having UF as our opponent. FWIW, I love this game, and want to make it a rivalry comparable to Bama UT. I enjoyed very much beating the shite out of UF in 2011 with a jump pass touchdown coming at the end of the game as essentially a huge middle finger to the UF football team.
ETA: 2007 LSU v UF in Tiger Stadium was the greatest game I have ever seen in person. 6 4th down conversions.

did the LSU AD say they want to stop playing florida??

Why is LSU afraid to play UF every year?
i mean i actually like this game every year and i thought the lsu ppl like it too, but they'd rather cower in the corner.
Haven't seen any LSU Fans influence the outcome of the game, regardless. I think its a natural tendency to support a path of least resistance to success for your program.
Its disingenuous for a team in the SEC (the East I might add) to think or say a team that plays in the SEC West is scared to play anyone. Least of all not LSU, who beat the most impressive schedule in the history of mankind at this level in 2011 before the duckfart in the Dome.
We played three BCS Bowl Game Winning programs, & beat every team on our schedule, and played for a National Title. This program's proven it'll play anyone.
What we as fans want is as easy a road as possible. Easy in the SEC being a ridiculously subjective term.
We play the Flagship, Sabatron 5000, Grind U, Freeze's Mississippi Grant Writers LLC, and the Fighting Manziel's annually.
Oh, and we have to play AU as well. Nevermind that like everyone else, we play some teams from the East.
Teams from the East don't play as difficult a schedule as teams from the West. You don't like it, point to the records of those programs the past few years. Over the last decade, the West has clearly been the more dominant Division, and save for the mid-late 90's, the East was not the dominant or most successful Division in Atlanta since the advent of the SECCG.
LSU Fans are pitted against the year-in-year-out most difficult program to play in that Division. We don't think its fair that other programs get to vote in their self-interest in Destin when this subject comes up in order to protect their games against crappier rivals. Either that, or they vote to keep their own game against us so as to not let Jimbeaux & Co into the SEC to start to take away some of their base & cache as the only Fla-based institution in the SEC.
But as fans, we have little impact. So what your OP was is essentially a flame. So enjoy it last year, congrats on getting run out of the gym in New Orleans last year (at least we put up a fight in our Bowl Game) by a CUSA/Big-East/Conference-challenged program like Louisville.
We'll see you in Tiger Stadium.

For an aggie to come on this board & rant bout any team being afraid to play another is a joke. They bailed out of a tradition rich game/conference to get away from UT. Color it anyway you want, but that's the main reason for leaving a conference they've been in forever.

While LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva said Saturday that he believes the SEC will stick with permanent opponents from opposite divisions — something LSU has staunchly opposed — Martin said he will make one more attempt to sway his fellow SEC presidents and chancellors this week at the annual Spring Meeting in Destin, Fla. “I will try to make the case” for abandoning permanent opponents, Martin said Saturday. “I will make the case for LSU. I think we at least have a shot.”

“I don’t think it’s fair,” Alleva said.

LSU’s complaint about permanent opponents is twofold. One is the potential for competitive imbalance. LSU has to play a perennial SEC power in Florida, a program that has made more SEC Championship Game appearances than any team and joins LSU and Alabama as the only schools to win two BCS national titles. Conversely, Mississippi State plays Kentucky and Ole Miss plays Vanderbilt each year. Kentucky and Vanderbilt are traditionally near the bottom of the SEC East standings and the only two schools in that division to have never played in the SEC Championship Game.
I know you didn't start the argument with me, but you are just wrong. The AD was very much opposed to playing UF every year, meanwhile they voted to maintain us as a permanent opponent. Quotes are from this Advocate article

Exactly. As long as its not possible to play every other SEC team in any given year the schedules are never going to be equal.
I wouldn't mind getting rid of the permanent rivals and letting teams decide if they want to continue them as "out of conference" games, though.

Yet you lost to that team that got run out of the gym in New Orleans by a CUSA/Big-East/Conference-challenged program 14-6...

I agree. It also has a bunch to do with the fact that the second opponents are UGA and SC vs. Mizzou and UK.

I know this isnt a revolutionary thought, but it's just the current state of the LSU, Bama, UF, and UT programs that have people bitching.
No one in the conference gave a shite who the frick Bama was playing when we were getting our asses handed to us by the Vols/Fulmer every damn year.
But low and behold - when Nick Saban comes back to the SEC and has the balls to take the Bama job and turn the Tide, people want to bitch and whine about how "unfair" the schedules are now?

quote:Actually what they said was either the permanent rivals should end OR the division winner should be based on division record. That way, a SECW team that gets a cake eastern schedule(bama '12 & '13) can't automatically get to ATL by default. It is funny how the people that want equity in conference scheduling get ridiculed by the fans of the old guard that want nothing more than to protect the powers in Birmingham that "create" these "equitable" schedules.
Well I think the LSU AD and Miles both said they thought permanent rivals should end.

The problem is not with you guys - the series is actually even in the last 12 years.
It's the other eastern opponent that Birmingham has us play. This year, it's Georgia, last year, South Carolina.
When was the last time the MulliGumpNeck Things had to play Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina to go along with their 'permanent' - Tennessee ??
