Why is it assumed that Georgia is in the CFP no matter what?

If LSU beats Georgia, and that’s a huge if, LSU will be on a 7-game winning streak with wins over what will then be a top 5 Georgia team and a top 6 Alabama team.
Georgia’s best wins at that point will be over top 10 Tennessee and maybe a top 10 Oregon team (assuming they beat USC).
LSU will have better wins, head to head, and be SEC Champions.
Would the Committee really overlook all of that to punish us for losing by 1 pt in week 1?

I agree. Makes no sense to have LSU- Georgia meet in the SEC title game then still put both in the playoff if Georgia loses. The SEC Championship game IS a playoff game. USC if they win out should get in over Georgia.

If TCU and USC win out then the winner of the SEC championship will be the only SEC team in the CFP.

The only way that Georgia is out of the playoffs is if one of the following two scenarios take place:
1.) They lose both their season finale and the SEC championship by any margin at all (two loss uga isn't getting in, period)
2.) They win their season finale but LSU absolutely beats the dog shite (no pun intended) out of them. I'm talking a 41-14 type beatdown.
If LSU beats them by just a score or two, they are in. No question. The only question is would that be enough to get LSU in too. I think it would.
1.) OSU/Mich
2.) TCU
3.) LSU
4.) uga

Same reason they lost in the SEC CG last year and still made it

USC goes before one of those teams

The pac 10 isn't on the same level as the SEC

Different resume and different circumstances each year.
That’s kind of the point though…it is an assumption but with no real empirical support other than LSU having 2 losses and Georgia only having 1 loss at that point.

I don’t assume UGA is in the playoff.

You can only affect the next game on your schedule.
Let's talk about this after COFH.

Can’t be punished for playing 13 games. Georgia should be undefeated in the regular season barring some type of freak disaster that allows tech to beat Georgia in Sanford stadium.

Well LSU has 2 losses for starters…

12-1 uga would be a top 4 team OP

And one of those losses was unbelievably bad.

While it's not entirely fair, it's entirely possible that UGA is in over LSU even if they lose head to head.
In 2016, OSU lost to PSU during the season and finished with 1-loss. PSU had two losses but won the Big 10. OSU got in the playoff and PSU didn't.
LSU as a 2 loss conference champ isn't an automatic pick. It's actually likely UGA would be ahead of them in the pecking order even with a head to head loss.

I think Tech spent their wad on beating UNC this past weekend.

Focus Georgia Tech, imo.

Using those predictors, LSU has a 95% chance of making the playoffs if they beat A&M & UGA according to 538
