You should have just asked why they are more obsessed with him than their own coach. They can easily just say they don't hate him but they can't claim they didn't flood the boards with Gus threads and post all pre-season from the day Auburn hired him. More than they did about their own coach. Once their claims about him were proven to be BS they disappeared and only pop up to cry about Gus when someone talks about how good he is or when someone talks about their obsession with him.
The answer is they despise him because he is successful somewhere other than Arkansas. Most claim they don't want him but don't hate him all to try to convince themselves they have everyone fooled that they aren't butthurt he is at Auburn. It's working because they believe no one can tell. Which is all the more reason they get made fun of for it.
