Why is Florida afraid

Doesn't it ever get old trotting out this "they're afraid" argument every time people want to criticize a schedule?

Florida plays a home-and-home OOC series with FSU. Florida already has a neutral site game every year with Georgia, leaving them only three home SEC games every other year. On the few occasions that they've had the chance to schedule a home-and-home OOC besides FSU, political and rivalry considerations led to the selection of Miami as the other one.

quote:

never travel outside the state to play an OOC game

Playing at FSU and Miami is no less a road game just because they're in the same state.

quote:

LSU: '09 @ Washington/ '10 vs UNC(Georgia Dome)/'11 vs Oregon (Cowboys Stadium)/'13 vs TCU (Cowboys Stadium)

I think Florida would have more fear of losing at FSU than in any of these games except Oregon.

quote:

Bama: '08 vs. Clemson (Georgia Dome)/'09 vs Virginia Tech (Georgia Dome) '11 @ Penn State/ '12 vs Michigan (Cowboys stadium)/ '13 vs Virginia Tech (Georgia Dome)/ '14 vs West Virginia (GA Dome)

All of these are easier than a game at FSU.

quote:

Auburn: '12 vs Clemson '15 vs Virginia (Georgia Dome)/'11 @ Clemson/ '08 @ West Virginia

Ditto.

quote:

Tennessee: '10 @ Memphis, '08 @ UCLA, '12 vs NC State (Ga Dome), '13 @ Oregon, '14 @ Oklahoma

Other than Oregon and Oklahoma, ditto again.

This whole bullshite about Florida not playing OOC games outside the state is just a bunch of tripe.

Because we don't have to.

Our SOS is consistently top 10. It's strong enough.

What's the ROI to change one of our cupcakes to a quality OOC opponent at their house?

Why do they have to?

They're locked into playing LSU and FSU every year.

Has not having a neutral site OOC matchup ever hurt Florida's ability to get into the BCS national title game? I can't recall it ever hurting Florida the way that Auburn had the misfortune of being odd man out in a 3 way tie in 2004. LSU was helped immensely in 2007 by scheduling and beating the shite out of Va. Tech but I can't remember this ever being an issue for Florida.

In short, maybe you can argue they are pussies (debatable) but does it really matter if the goal is to get to and win the national title? The SEC is tough enough.

Damn fine points.

Florida and Georgia are the only SEC schools that play a conference game at a neutral site every year.

The WLOCP every year presents a problem...it isnt a home game for either team in a financial sense and its a 50/50 split seat game...I love it and its been tradition for a long long time.

UF has the problem of an instate rivalry on a home and home basis and when you add the away game with the clown school and the WLOCP...it gets dicey....we have to have the home game revenues to fuel our battleship. Our SOC is always very high and if you look at this years schedule...its ranked top ten. We have nothing to be shameful about...I hate playing the scum in south Fla and dont want that series to ever get renewed...they cant draw 25,000 to Sun Life unless someone brings their own fans....that school seriously considered dropping its football program in the early 1970s btw...because of $$.

AD Foley would love seven home games a year to help pay bills and fund the non revenue sports. I myself would like us to try harder to schedule teams on a home only basis...like Northwestern, Indiana, Boston College, WVU, Pitt, Syracuse etc etc....they already recruit Florida hard and the exposure would help them in the sunshine state.

I don't disagree at all with this, but the 7 home games part is the big key.

Speak for yourself.
I rather play them than anybody else.
They're our oldest instate rival (late 30's) and there's too much history involved (Florida Flop, "Gig A Gator" on the helmet, James Jones touchdown catch/no touchdown catch, Howard Scnellenberger kicking the field goal with :01 left on the clock even though they were winning 28-7 because we had "the rudest crowd he has ever seen", etc.) Oh, the Jim Kelly "Gators eat boogers" T-shirt.
Gotta play that game every time we can.

Next year we play Miami and FSU. In case you young kids don't know, UF, Miami and FSU were responsible for 1/3 of all the national titles won since 1985. FSU had a 14 year run where they ended up in the top 5 each and every year. No other team will ever come close to that feat.

I was on the UF team that went to LA to play USC in 1983. That trip did absolutely nothing for UF. We don't recruit California and we were already starting to build a name for ourselves. The players didn't even get to see LA so it wasn't even exciting for us. USC on the other hand ended up recruiting several Florida athletes and started a pipeline throughout the 80's.

Florida schools don't have to go out of the state, it's all the other schools that have to come to Florida.

UGA fans need to give it a rest with the schedules.

All that traveling has yielded 1 SEC titles since 2006...UF has 2 BCS titles in that time frame.

Heres a tip...schedule an "easier" schedule and you might win something.

LSU fans...dont schedule Furman or Ga Southern and talk about other teams schedules.

Did u see the crowd at the sugar bowl. Florida fans must all be sex offenders or have some legal impediment that keeps them from leaving the state
